As long as this is done selectively and wisely and we don't go full Padres, I am ok with this.

I don't totally buy the narrative that Crane is opposed to long term deals. He's opposed to the 10/$300 mega deals, but he's shown plenty of willingness to make 5+ year commitments. When I think back to the home-grown players through the years that were "performance eligible" to receive a multi-year tack-on to the team control years:

Keuchel - rejected 5/$90 extension during 2016 season
Altuve - accepted five year tack-on to previous tack-on (7 years total) at $163mm total commitment
Correa - was never open to extension, always had sights set on mega deal
Springer - two sides discussed extension but bitter feelings dating back to delayed call up perhaps nixed this
Bregman - accepted two year tack-on (6 years total) at $100mm total commitment
Alvarez - accepted three year tack-on (6 years total) at $115mm total commitment
LMJ - accepted four year tack-on (5 years total) at $85mm total commitment

I think Javier and Framber extensions would be squarely in the ballpark of what we've done before. The Tucker one, however, would likely be the biggest of all them in terms years and money.

IMO Crane won't balk at 8/$200 for Ted, but he will if it gets much higher than that (and it might).

I'm pretty sure Tuck is going to want 10 years at least. And I am okay with that. If you can lock down Christian Javier and Framber for 5ish year deals too make it happen.

I could make the case either way on giving Tucker 10 years (7 tack on). Don't think Crane will but I could be wrong.

I don't have specific players in mind. I just don't want a bunch of aging boat anchors, leading to contracts like Carlos Lee.

I'm just going to be honest. Altuve scares me. I absolutely want him to retire here and I believe he wants that as well, what I worry about is if/when he become Miguel Cabrera if he gets much more of a contract

I don't disagree. I'm all for extending Altuve if he continues to play well. At this point I feel like we'd be buying high. No reason we can't wait 1 more year on him. I wouldn't do more than 2 years with multiple vesting or team options. I was more so being happy about Bregman. I figured that ship had sailed.

Totally agree on Bregman. That's my guy, my sons nickname in baseball is Baby Bregs and he wears #2….we don't want him going anywhere lol

I think Altuve is the kind of guy who will take team friendly deals to solidify his place in Astros history. He knows he's on the back half of his career and I think he really wants to stay here and win as many world series as possible. I aint worried about him one bit.

I agree that I thought Bregs ship had sailed. Hopefully not. I'd love to keep him around. His swagger is a big part of this teams juju

A few have been posted, but I'll put them all together and add to it without overlapping comments. Lots of good info from Dana. Very unlike the last 2 GMs.

Reading between the lines, I think we get a Javier announcement soon.

Man I gotta say Brown seems like a no BS take names kick ass kinda guy. This guy owns his shlt.

As opposed to Click who was more of a 'Yeah obviously we want to but we'll see what happens' kinda guy.

He's bringing a great attitude and approach. I like it!

Not sure Altuve will take to the game of basketball at an advance age. Especially at his height

I mean, I get it, but I'm really not a fan of the Oxy patch. I wish it was a little smaller, it looks like it takes up too much of the sleeve.

I'm not a fan either.

And I get that it's advertising but at the base level, advertising is to sell a product. What is Oxy trying to sell to the people who watch the Astros? I mean, they're an O&G/chemical company- we're not buying their petrochemicals or gas from them. It would be more understandable for Exxon, Shell, Chevron, etc since they have a product they market straight to consumers via a distributor network (ie- gas stations).

In other words, what kind of ROI is there really for Oxy sponsoring the Astros or paying to advertise with them on the uniforms, etc?

I wonder where Yuli is gonna end up, or if he'll just retire completely?

The fact he can't get a deal anywhere else shows why we're making the right move not signing him.

Yea, it's just wild to go from a batting title to unemployed in a year. I'll always love Yuli, but there's really no way we can sign him.

Any Oxy people here? Ok, good.

I hate that the Astros are associated with that group. The procurement people in one particular plant always had a a hand out. Allegedly… might as well throw in a caveat not needed from firsthand experience. Started out as Texans and UFC ticket requests and escalated to prostitutes and race horses. No kidding, a damn thoroughbred… and I'm talking about the horse.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

He' 38. It goes fast. Probably more surprising he won a batting title at 36.
