there's a chance that by the time Altuve is eligible for the Hall that all sportswriters will have been replaced by ChatGPT
Understood but I think this highlights the type of stupid petty bullsh** the HOF voters consider. If one guy isn't in because he's an arsehole why don't you think they would hold another guy back because he was on a team with the biggest "scandal" since the roid era?Farmer1906 said:
Schilling is 100% personal and political.

The liberal press doesn't like free speech when it's conservative, so Schilling is considered a radical.
Altuve is going to keep being a great dude, mashing dingers and winning titles. The truth always bears itself out over time and I think his image will continue to improve year after year until the national POV matches the local one.Big Al 1992 said:
So freakin annoying. Altuve should be thought of as one of the true heroes of the game. First ballot HOF'er. A super nice and humble guy that had to work harder than most, achieved what seemed darn near impossible, and has performed greater than anyone's wildest expectations. At least Houston baseball fans see this and appreciate it. But it's going to be "controversial" and a "difficult vote" for too many idiot mouth breathers on the east and west coasts.

Rolen getting in and Jeff Kent not is a ****ing joke.
Then of course Lance Berkman is not in and he's the nicest guy in town.
The only thing I know for sure is that by and large sports writers are idiots.
Nobody likes free speech when it contradicts their own POV. The other side is just as bad as your own, no matter what side you're on.Ag4life80 said:

Agree 100%.
This is a conversation best left for the politics forum. Let's stick to baseball.

You make good points, but as has been pointed out Berkman is more deserving than some who have gotten in the past few years. And I was kind of pleasantly surprised by Bagwell myself, but anyone being objective knows he would have hit 500 home runs if his shoulder hadn't have given out on him. Maybe voters shouldn't consider that but in his case I think they might have. The Porkchop Express said:
I suppose I will draw some ire and I'm sure my age is a factor, but I don't really think Berkman nor several other guys belong in the Hall of Fame, but rather the hall of Very Good. For me, entry into the HOF means you have to tick some all-time surefire boxes like 3,000 hits or 500 HR or a .300 lifetime average or 300 wins.
The exceptions are that you were dominant for a shorter period of time but had something tragic happen, like Kirby Puckett or Sandy Koufax.
The Hall of Fame should be an elite standard of the upper-upper of the game. Berkman is one of my favorite Astros ever, but I don't think he qualifies. To be honest, I was surprised Bagwell got in. He had great numbers and won an MVP, but he felt slightly short of 500 HR and .300 for his career, and wasn't close to 3,000 hits.
I know those numbers have changed meaning over the years, but there are still not very many guys who have reached them. Looking back over the last 10 years of the HOF vote, I would de-shrine McGriff, Rolen, Jim Katt, Minnie Minoso, Ted Simmons - who I had no idea was in there - and Harold Baines automatically. Lance was a stud and a blast to watch, and I even got to interact with him some when I worked at RIce right out of A&M in the late 1990s, but when I think greatest to ever play the game, his name isn't on my list.
Just the ol' $0.02.

Jim Crane said he does not have a timeline for the Astros GM search. He said there are internal and external candidates. Asked what he is looking for in a GM, Crane replied “a good one.”

favorite Jeff Kent stat:

career plate appearances with the bases empty ---> 4,718
thank you Barry Bonds
Just hire Brown. No farting around with Ausmus. As far as I can tell, dude has absolutely 0 experience with scouting, which is probably the most important aspect of being a GM.EastCoastAgNc said:Jim Crane said he does not have a timeline for the Astros GM search. Is Breggy wearing a clip on tie? Come on man...you're making almost $30M a year. Shell out for a real tie.
