man, slow day when you have to dissect Adam Everett numbers......maybe someone who's real bored can go look up some Carl Everett stats for us and can compare them to Derek Bell for us on who was most underrated.

Derek "Operation Shut Down"Bell versus "Jurassic Park" Carl Everett.
Bell was part of an other-worldly '98 squad

Bell: 111 R, 198 H, 41 2B, 22 HR, 108 RBI, .314/.364/.490
Bagwell: 124 R, 34 HR, 111 RBI, 19 SB, .304/.424/.557
Biggio (best year of his life): 123 R, 210 H, 51 2B, 20 HR, 88 RBI, 50 SB, .325/.403/.503
Alou: 104 R, 34 2B, 38 HR, 124 RBI, .312/.399/.582

Biggio 1 of 2 players with 50 doubles and 50 steals in the same season. Other one was Tris Speaker in 1912.

That team was unreal. Still remember the shock when breaking news came over sportscenter that the astros got randy Johnson.

Stupid Padres

IIRC that was the season that Bill James claimed Biggio was the most valuable player in baseball over Griffey Jr.

Its past Jan 1 and ST is just over 4 weeks away for pitchers and catchers. Think we get a GM soon?

Nope. Would it be a surprise to go the entire season without one, officially?

Nope. I think Crane is going to spend a while being Jerry Jones Mk2.

I don't blame it on the Padres. There was no way our offense in that series should have just tanked to only score 8 runs in 4 games (and 5 of them in the one game we won). IIRC the Astros lineup struck out like 50 times in 4 games in that series. Just terrible.

I still think we're waiting for Stearns. Not sure if the hold up is technical/contractual or if it's because he wants to take a sabbatical this year.

I was 24 that year, and my 2 best friends and I all took off work and ponied up for playoff tickets for Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS. I still have nightmares about Kevin Brown in Game 1. if I recall correctly, he struck out 33 batters in that game.
Billy Spiers saved our bacon in Game 2, but that really felt like our best shot to win a WS for a long time.

That is what I am thinking too. But there is a bunch of conflicting reports on when Stearns is actually out of his MIL contract. I think the Mets may have the edge is they push for him.

I didn't know Cal Ripken was an Aggie!
Nice try, but Ripken played third at this time frame

That would be Bobby Bonner.
Why is his rc so valuable?
Correct

Robert Bonner was the Aggie SS circa 76-77
One helluva player with a cannon for an arm. Unfortunately, at the big league level, his hitting was not much better than Belanger's. He started at SS and Ripken started at third. About midway through the season, Earl Weaver said he wasn't going to go the light hitting SS route again and moved Ripken to short.
At the time of the move, Ripken did not say 'I'm no Belanger on defense', but did say 'I'm no Bobby Bonner on defense'.

Bonner's rookie card is so valuable because it is a split rookie card with Ripken

I guess if he's willing to pay them $1.4 million to stay on the roster, so be it.

It's no big deal. He's under control 3 years. Either we agree to a deal or arbitration decides.

No news on Framber, Javier, Stanek, or Tucker yet. They might go fight it out. Could be smart since we're GMless.

I read this that Math gets nearly what Urquidy gets.

If that were true I would be quitting my day job yesterday. I mean I would sprain a finger typing that resignation letter.

Let him eat all those innings and keep the studs fresh for the playoffs.

That approach worked out alright.

It's not quite apples to apples. Urquidy is in year 1 of arb. Maton is in year 3. Each year it goes up.

Javier, Urquidy, Tucker, & Taylor would be all the year 1 guys to compare.

Pressly
Montero
Abreu
Neris
Stanek
Maton

I will absolute guarantee we have the best #6 arm in the pen in all of MLB.

If memory serves correct, I think he was from Corpus
I heard way back that after 2 years as a utility guy, he retired and became a missionary

I think we were hoping something clicked for him in the 2021 playoffs and we tried him in some leverage situations early last year.

This year is a contract year for him. Will be interesting to see what kind of season he can put together. With the exception of the 2021 playoffs, he was better in CLE than he's been so far in HOU.

Yes.

Worked out OK with our six man starting rotation as well.

The zips projections have Forrest Whitley making five starts. I guess I'm looking forward to that?
