2018 - Astros trade Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran, Michael Feliz and a minor leaguer to Pittsburgh for pitcher Gerrit Cole. He is billed as the "third ace" to team with Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel in hopes of defending their Worlds Championship.
You might think that sounds like the worst trade in Pirates history, considering:
Musgrove went 18-26 with a 4.23 ERA in three seasons for the Pirates and has since gone 21-16 with a 3.06 ERA for the Padres.
Colin Moran hit .269 for the Pirates then left after 3 years in free agency.
MIcahel Feliz went 5-6 with an ERA of 5.00 in 115 games and got waived.
But what if I told you that not only was that not the worst trade in Pirates history, it wasn't even the worst trade they made in 2018?
Fast-forward to the trade deadline of 2018 when the Pirates decided they had to have a fella named Chris Archer. He was an innings-eater for Tampa at the time and had dazzled the world by leading the American League in losses in 2016 with 19.
The Pirates knew he was their guy to win the title with, so they got him from Tampa for the low-low cost of:
Minor-league pitcher Shane Baz, who has had 2 cups of coffee as a starter for the Rays in 2021-2022.
Rookie outfielder Austin Meadows, who hit 33 HR with a .922 ERA in 2019 and then hit 27 HR with 106 RBI n 2021.
And young pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who despite his Tommy John surgery, is a pretty wicked arm who was lights out in the 2020 playoffs for them.
Archer pitched 2 years with the Pirates, going 6-12 with a 4.92 ERA, got released, and signed with the Rays again.

Like the first time we had AUsmus he had two seasons in the .260s. By the end of his career him hitting .260 was like a regular playing hitting .667 for a season.
He had zero power and didn't draw walks. If we ever get a designated fielder, he'd be the prototype.
Yes. IIRC Black Jack & Everett both got screwed by lazy voters giving it to an aging Omar Vizquel who was still pretty good but not anywhere near them in their prime.

The single season "record" is SS Mark Belanger 4.4 in 1968 when he hit .208...but he would go on to win 8 GG. IDK much about him but he got MVP votes in a couple of seasons where he had an OPS in the .500s, so he must have been slick. But I digress...

Belanger won a lot of Gold Gloves I would presume because the Orioles were in the playoffs and WS a lot, giving him much more of a national stage. 1 hit, 2 SAC in 4 PA makes a BA of 1/2=.500 and an OBA of 1/4 =.250.
If all you do is hit singles and have no walks, HBP, SAC or get on by error your slash lines will all be the same. For a while last year Castro managed that feat. Vazquez did too as an Astros for a while. He had like 18 singles to start out.
