The Dodgers announce they have released Trevor Bauer. He is free to sign with any team for $720,000.

I know, I know...But it's funny any team can sign him at the min and he still banks all that money from the Dodgers. lolFarmer1906 said:The Dodgers announce they have released Trevor Bauer. He is free to sign with any team for $720,000.

In theory I do not disagree with this but Bauer has shown to be a clubhouse cancer everywhere he has been. If the 'Stros were lacking in the pen it might be worth the risk, as is let some other team deal with all that baggage.PrestigeWorldwideAg12 said:
We traded for Osuna and it was fine. Bauer has done his time, I'd have no problem signing him to a league minimum deal and see if he can perform like he did prior to his ban.

On paper, signing a player at Bauer's level for league min should be something every time should do. But who will actually do it? If none, do we consider Tyler blackballed?
Yea, lots of angles to this.Harry Dunne said:
If he has the humility to come to Houston after all the trash he talked and keep his mouth shut and do his job then I have no problem with it. At the first sign of trouble, you cut his ass. I don't think he'd come here unless he wanted to be different moving forward.
Aside from that, everyone hates us already anyway. Why not lean into it?

Of course and there are some that are now mad cause you gave them a scenario to be mad aboutHarryRocket said:
Settle a debate for me..
If the Astros had just signed Carlos Correa for 6/200 and then traded Pena to the Pirates for Bryan Reynolds and another top tier prospect
Would you have been mad?
Do we win 2 more WS?HarryRocket said:

I'll just let this speak for itself.Farmer1906 said:I don't think your NFL comparison is too far off for MLB. As for the Gibson '68 season, if you teleport him in 2023 and he throws as he did in '68 now, he probably wouldn't have a single CG because he'd get hit. With the changes to scouting, video, data, training, blah blah blah it's not the same game. I don't think it's fair to compare across eras.
He wouldn't have any CG because he'd get pulled after 100 pitches...Farmer1906 said:

No-hitters are cool, but all you really need to know is that Mike Fiers & Homer Bailey are tied for 7th all time with 2 each and Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens had none.
In 2023 Carlos + Reyolds >>>> Pena + Chas. Obviously.HarryRocket said:

Kid was nails in post season, nails in the field, he might just get better at the plate this year… (he could soph slump it)
But That underrated to overrated happened quickly.
I thought about this a few weeks ago. Pena is one of the best assets in the game and the list of guys who wouldn't be in play if we dangled him on the trade market is very very short.HarryRocket said:

But he'd also have access to all of the advantages pitchers have access to (everything you mentioned for hitters) along with better nutrition, strength training, etc. and he'd be able to rear back and throw his best stuff for 6-7 innings.
It's impossible to compare and just in general humans are much bigger and stronger than they were 60 years ago so it's not a fair comparison...but I think if Gibson had been born in 1999 he'd still be a stud.
Do you think comparing batting avg over time is the same as passing yards?McInnis said:I'll just let this speak for itself.Farmer1906 said:I don't think your NFL comparison is too far off for MLB. In 1960 Dick Groat led the NL in hitting with a .325 average. In 2022 Jeff Mc Neil led the NL in batting with a .326 average.
In 1960 Johnny U led the NFL in passing yards with 3099 yards. In 2022 Patrick Mahommes led the NFL with 5250 yards..
You might say but there's a lot more games played in an NFL season now than there was then. Which would be helping make my point.
correct, I'm not disagreeing with you at all.Farmer1906 said:You kind of making my point.Harry Dunne said:He wouldn't have any CG because he'd get pulled after 100 pitches...Farmer1906 said:

It's not a fair comparison because so much has changed.

So, in an instance of right place right time, we got a call from a Long-time family friend thats on the Astros staff late last week that said the GOAT (Altuve) had a donation for our organization. The caveat was that it needed to be picked up from his home. I immediately volunteered my services! Went over to Altuve's on Tuesday afternoon and got to shoot the sh** with him for a solid 15-20 minutes. Talked a little bit about the last 2 months he spent in Venezuela, and how he is ready to get going this season. I thought he was just there in his home country a short while, but he said his whole family went to visit relatives and enjoy some quality time together. You could tell the amount of pride he had for being from there. He laughed a little when I brought up the street dancing video.
TLDR; met the goat, as advertised he is laid back, humble, and cool as ****
And in this care that is Abreu, Montero, a good chance we extend Framber or Javier, flexibility at the deadline, a better chance of signing Bregman and/or Altuve in 2 years, and the benefits of being under the luxury tax (mostly to do with QO, int pool, picks, etc)Harry Dunne said:In 2023 Carlos + Reyolds >>>> Pena + Chas. But you're forgetting a pretty important component:
Is Carlos ($33.3M) + Reynolds $13.5M) > Pena (700K) + Chas (570K) + whatever you can get for $46M???
It does weaken it a little, but, yes, I can cherry-pick all sorts of stats that change and stay the same in both sports.Harry Dunne said:
This doesn't change your point, but 1981 was a shortened season and that's why the HR totals are so low.
it's easier in the NFL because the entire history of the league is their "steroid era".McInnis said:It might not be fair but at least with baseball you can do it.
