Im pretty sure it was sarcastic & that was the whole point.

I don't think we've let go of a guy we should have signed other than CFM.

Those two Bregman walkoffs that barely went 10' are still two of the craziest baseball plays ever

Phil Maton shocked the whole world by pitching a scoreless inning in relief.
Really enjoying these writeups Porkchop.

If Maton had not broken his finger he almost surely would have been on the playoff roster wouldn't he? What an expensive lesson in anger management.

Who wouldn't want an often injured pitcher with anger management issues

It's a real treat to revisit the season box score by box score and see the evolution of the batting order and the pitching staff. Maton is just terrible every time out. Pena was killing the ball when he was connecting. and Altuve was hitting about .170 into the first of May.

Its definitely good perspective. We win it all and people tend to forget the "Altuve & Bregman are finished & the offense is broken" general commentary.

Should be mandatory reading for all of the early season cliff jumpers.

Also a quality post from Marvin after we lost to the Blue Jays to get to 11-11 on May 2.

A case can be made that the Astros are actually worse than their record, with one of the worst offenses in the entire MLB.

and W

the Astros are a classic .500 team

cannot get the hitting and pitching in-synch.

when they pitch...they don't hit

and when they hit...they don't pitch

Were they wrong at the time of writing? I think that it is disingenuous at best to go back and quote someone and say "look how dead wrong they were" when at the time was performing that way and it was trending that it could be the case.

I think these guys have enough history to show they will get to where they need to over a long season. Need to wait until mid-June to see where things stand IMO.

1. Having fun at your own expense is always allowed.

2. The W post is pretty benign.

Im talking more about the Altuve is done and Bregman is mediocre and we're entering the rebuild type of stuff. Like Paul said, we should know better by now and instead of crying and calling it disengenuous maybe laugh at yourself and have some perspective next year.

I shudder to think what random pessimistic crap I posted during the down offensive periods.

I'm a pretty historically dedicated time waster on TexAgs, but I'm not going through 2,375 pages of posts to find the worst ones. I jumped to the day of the point where we had dropped back to back stinkers to the Jays to see what I could find.

On my daily rabbit hole dive on Baseball Reference, Altuve is going to hit a lot of major milestones next year.

He needs 14 runs for 1,000 in his career. 347 players before him have gotten to 1,000 runs. He's 13th among active players.

65 hits for 2,000. 292 players before him have gotten to 2,000 hits. He's 9th among active players.

21 doubles for 400. 193 players before him have gotten to 400 doubles. He's 10th among active players.

8 home runs for 200. He's 31st among active players. Currently he's tied for 17th for homers by a 2B in MLB history at 192. If he hits 100 more in his career, he'll finish third behind Kent (354) and Cano (325). Biggio is at 228.

Also when he gets to the 200th home run, he'll be one of just 52 players every with 200 career HR and 200 career SB. Andrew McCutcheon did this last April when he got his 200th stolen base. Mike Trout is the only other active player in the 200-200 club.

4 RBI for 700. He's 29th among active players. Not bad for a leadoff guy. Rogers Hornsby is first among second baseman with 1,295. Biggio finished with 897. Eleven 2B have reached 1,000 for their career.

52 total bases for 3,000. 310 players have reached 3,000 total bases in their careers.

I'm bummed to see JV leave because I loved watching him tear his way up the record books. Be fun to keep tabs on Altuve this year and in the years to come.

It is worth noting that Baseball Reference still shows some players as active that have announced retirement. Not sure when they update it (Jan 1st or start of the new season), but Altuve will see a bump in his place on the Active list once that happens. Here are their current leaders in hits for reference.

How did you check for 2 stats at once? Wanted to see how many are in the 300-300 (HR-SB) group all time.

I just Googled it. I don't think it's on there, or at least not anywhere I can see.

Good point about the active guys retiring, although guys un-retire a lot these days.

Here is is by the way
https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/300-300_club#Members_of_the_300-300_club

There's one member of the 500-500 club - Barry Bonds 762/514

Nobody is in the 400-400 club other than Bonds

300-300 includes

Willie Mays 660/338
Andre Dawson 438/314
Bobby Bonds 332/461
Reggie Sanders (WTF!) 305/304
Steve Finley 304/320
A-Ro 696/329
Carlos Beltran 435/312

A-Rod and Mays are the only two guys in the 300-300-3,000 club

If you combine homers and steals as aggregate stats, the leader is Rickey Henderson at 297/1,406

Thanks for the info. I think 300-300 is possible for Altuve being 108 HR and 21 SB away.

It would make him only the second infielder of all time to get there.

Wagner in year 8 of the ballot. He was at 51% last year. If he jumps to the high 60s he should eventually get in in 24 or 25.

That's good news. Last year his actual results were within a point of the tracker so hopefully he will stay in this range or go up as more votes come in.

I'm sorry. Helton doesn't belong in the HOF. If you ever look at his home/road splits he was 100% a product of Coors field. He may have the biggest splits of any player ever.

I am certainly guilty of hyperbole, but you choose to cherry pick a comment about an 11-11 team sputtering out of the gate? I normally enjoy your posts, so stick to fun and informative stuff. You're better than this.

I really just tossed a couple of posts out from the one day of a 2,375 page thread. I didn't realize feelings were going to be hurt. And I'm definitely not better than this.

Anyone else confused why Jimmy Rollins is only getting 8.3% of the HOF vote?

2,455 career hits, 511 doubles, 115 triples, 231 HR, 936 RBI, 470 SB and an MVP? 4 Gold Glvoes and 3 All-Star games?
