Steve Cohen is an absolute dip****

Yes, most billionaires are dip****s...

He doesn't care if the Mets make money. He was a fan of them since he was little, and he makes enough money in a year, he can cover the payroll and still have money left over. Not sure why you guys are so upset with his spending...

I know the guy is rich, like 16 billion net worth rich, but even with that kind of money I'm not sure a half billion dollar payroll is sustainable. I mean Elon doesn't seem to mind setting 100 billion on fire, but I figured a buttoned down hedge fund guy probably isn't as loose with his money.

MLB internal revenue projections must be massive. Plus I've read a few places that the Mets have excellent young talent. Instead of waiting for them to mature, he's trying to win with JV and a couple of guys now. A few of the older guys will come off the books as their talent ages up. Correa will be their franchise infielder.

In the meantime, Jeremy Pena's star keeps burning brighter.

Even with rest and some platooning, he should be able to some of those reach those goals.

If he gets 5 PA a game, he'd only need to play a full 105 games. It doesn't exactly work like that. He played 121 games in 2021 and had 508 PA.

it feels like the Giants dodged a major bullet here.

would not want to be tied to Correa for 13 years --- that is a very, very long time.

SF can be a major player in the Ohtani sweepstakes now
Go ahead and get the tears in now...Ohtani will be a Met as well.

It's Cohen's money and he can do with it as he pleases. I agree, everyone complains about cheap owners and the lack of spending. Cohen goes and spends and makes people jealous. He wants to win.

Imagine the increase in team value the Mets will have once they win a ship again. 23 seasons since their last.

Flip side is, that is a hell of a lot of money for a guy that has average 111 games played in his 8 big league years. CC wins with this contract. Cohen, Giants, and any team for that matter should have offered more money but for less years. 6yrs/$192mm or something. When teams can see how healthy he is, but the Mets are screwed with him most likely come 2027/2028 seasons.
That is what is getting missed by some on here. Forget the years. These deals (Turner, Bogarts, Correa, Judge, etc), are essentially short term high AAV contracts that are manipulated for tax purposes. Zero chance that the signing teams think the contract will still be a good value at the end. It is pure manipulation plain and simple.

This is true. Several guys you will hear about this year or 24. The really problem is ****ty ownership prior. The farm has no pitching, with a few exceptions at the lower minor leagues. So if you have the ability to supplement the team short term, why would you do a complete rebuild. Going forward, I see the Mets as a team who develops players and still goes and gets the best to fill the holes. Think the Dodgers on steroids. The exception being that it is one mans decisions financially, not a group or organization.

Nothing but love for CC. Good for him and his family.

The guy is a great teammate and leader. The Mets are instantly better with him.

The arms race in the NL East is ridiculous. It must suck to me Washington and Miami right now. They know they won't sniff the playoffs for about 5 years.

That being said, let the NL East best up on each other. The Astros are still in a great position, and if we have to have the Mets it will be in the World Series.

So here is the big question and I know it's been discussed on here before but….

What does it take now to keep tucker and Framber?
Do y'all see any path for them to get a short term deal done like we did with breggy and Yordan to buy out the arbitration years?

Or are they looking at this market and thinking they wait it out and get massive deals?

FWIW- everything I've been told indicates Tucker wants to test the FA market and won't be signing an extension with Houston

You can write the book on Tucker. He is going to test free agency.

Your best bet for him staying in Houston is to cut him a massive deal of your own after this season. He is going to see how the lack of pre-aligned shift impacts his numbers this year and then play off of what is likely a banner year for him.

Enjoy the next 3 years and develop the hell out of Leon, Gilbert, Melton, & Barber.

He'll hit the market at the same time as Reynolds & Mullens. Except TED will be 2-3 years younger. He's gonna get one of those 12/315 deals.

Would the Astros give this contract at that point? We never have in the past with Crane

Its probably dependent on the guys coming up, Yordan's ability to continue to play LF, if TED takes the next step offensively, if we keep winning titles, etc.

Right now I lean toward no, but who the hell knows?

I don't know. Adding the Mets (for 1986) to the Astros payback tour scalp list would be very nice.

Correct. Only way the Astros might get him before free agency is to try and sign him to the 12-13 year deal and pay up in a big way.

If they never signed the deal then it's not tampering. It's allowed, it just doesn't happen.

Why would Ohtani consider another loser?

because of $$$$ and ease of travel back to Asia. Those are two reasons I can think of.

Dodgers, Padres, and Mariners can offer that plus winning. He's made it very clear he regrets not doing more due diligence before signing last time.
Mariners are one to watch. They are fully commited to winning. Get Ohtani and that team could be scary.
