Yes, most billionaires are dip****s...

He doesn't care if the Mets make money. He was a fan of them since he was little, and he makes enough money in a year, he can cover the payroll and still have money left over. Not sure why you guys are so upset with his spending...

Cohen really smacks of the kid who watches his 2 neighbors get the best toy in the world for Christmas (Braves & Phillies going to the World Series) and starts whining about wanting the same thing. But instead of having to beg his parents, he's got access to billions of dollars.

Now we just need the baseball equivalent of Jeff Van Gundy to come out and say, "Wow what a team, if they don't win 120 games and the World Series it will be a disaster!

At least he's not with the Yankees. I can stomach the Mets.

That team though is going to be a disaster. I want the best for JV and CC, but unfortunately, I think both break down physically during their contracts.

Aren't the luxury taxes paid to MLB distributed evenly among all the teams that are under the tax?

If so this is another reason why if not the prefect situation Crane would want to stay under.

And I'm also seeing that the tax increases on a sliding scale based on how many consecutive years you're over. So multiple huge long contracts that aren't staggered are only going to hurt them more as time goes.

I don't believe everyone is "hating" on him. It's more of I cant believe this guy is doing this...What he is doing/spending hasn't really been done before on this level.

To farmers point...these owners (at least for the most part) are billionaires. Not all but many could spend if they were willing to supplement the team finances with their personal wealth. Probably 29 teams care about at least breaking even. 1 doesn't seem to care about anything but his real life version of MLB The Show.

Getting the best players doesn't always mean you are going to win., but it does improve your chances. I think all the posters jumping to the assumption that they won't be competitive (I.e not making the playoffs) is a bit shortsighted. The games are not played on paper, but on paper as it is today, the Mets are a playoff team.

I have zero ill will toward Correa. I do think the Mets owner is out of control, though. It will be fun to laugh at them if they don't get to the series.

12 years is insane when you already have Lindor

Chances both of them finish their contracts with the Mets?

I know the guy is rich, like 16 billion net worth rich, but even with that kind of money I'm not sure a half billion dollar payroll is sustainable. I mean Elon doesn't seem to mind setting 100 billion on fire, but I figured a buttoned down hedge fund guy probably isn't as loose with his money.
