Here is my stab at it. Let's get weird.

vs RHP
Altuve
Tucker
Alvarez

vs LHP
Altuve
Chas
Alvarez
One theme I agree with is that Yordan should be locked into the third spot regardless. From there, if Brantley or Tucker is best suited to hit second, we should do it and not worry about back to back lefties hitting second and third. Especially given that the two spot will be sandwiched between two guys who hit lefties well.

I still think Bregman should get first crack at it though. IMO he's better suited as a two-hole table setter than cleanup hitting run producer. We've asked him to play the role of cleanup hitter out of necessity the past few years and he's done alright, but now we've got another RH slugger to stick in the middle of the order between Yordan and Tucker.

Incorrect, I once broke up a Yu Darvish no-hitter vs. the Astros by posting about how exciting a Ranger no-hitter would be on the Ranger thread.

Because we're not paying Brantley $35mm per year for 10+ years.

Not even close to the same situation.

The comp is Beinentendi for 5 yrs/$75 mil or Uncle Mike for 1 yr/$12 mil and promote Leon or market cools.

Benintendi and his reputation are living off the juiced ball 2018 & 2019 seasons

That's a massive assumption that MLB will be treating the Yankees like all other teams. Which they clearly have shown they don't do.

speaking of Tucker and home runs...

he still has the knack for multi-run homers.

30 homers last year...

17 with men on

13 solo shots

isn't Tatis going to miss like the first 20-25 games of the season? 37 seems high.

I can see Soto, Yordan, and Tucker going over on these numbers.

I think Riley, Olson, and Alonso go under. And I fully expect Judge to take a dramatic step back (and yes, i know 18 less would be dramatic) but i see under 44

Didn't hurt that he had LOTS of at bats with runners on!

Soto has to start swinging more if he's going to get high HR numbers. His eye is elite, but also he watches a lot of strikes too.

56% Swing in Zone
23% First Pitch
17% Chase

He's only topped 30 just once during 2019 juiced ball year.

I did check --- Tucker had more at-bats last year with the bases empty...than he did with runners on.

about 30 more at-bats.

he also hit more doubles with men on than doubles with the bases empty

OPS was about .200 higher with men on than not. He also excelled went leading off an inning. Basically, he sucked with 1 to 2 outs and no one on.

He was great late & close, 2 out w/ RISP, & high leverage. I think that was the opposite of most of his earlier career.

Is Trout going to hit 40 HR in 90 games? Because you know he's going to miss at least 70 hurt

I am not trying to dispute his amazing ability to hit with Runners on base, i'm simply noting that he had lots of opportunities. i would imagine the average hitter had way more than 30 ABs more with no runners on than with runners on.
It was a nod to those OBP guys ahead of him.

Trout just hit 40 in only 119 games.

The only potential issue I see with Bregman batting second is him clogging the bases. He runs like a duck and is slow as hell. He has good instincts so that does help. It would be very rare for him to score from 1st on a double I'd think.

Huge fan, but a race between him and maldy might be a nail biter.

You're right he isn't fast. He did speed up from last year when he was dealing with an injury. But Brantley & Gurriel, who occupied that spot a ton last year, aren't fast either. It's not like big ole Yordan was running them down. He's not moving too quickly either.

My fancy new TexAgs app tells me there were 72 new posts just today so I'm excited to see who we picked up and it's mostly talk about who is gonna bat 2nd - and there are several good options - when we all know Dusty will go all Dusty and probably put Dubon in the second spot on opening day.

If Judge drops back to 44 HR from 62, the Yankee fans will eat him alive. What a shame.

Literally no one should feel sorry for him. He could've played elsewhere on a similar massive contract and chose to stay.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I like to see great players, even ones I don't like on teams I loathe, stay on teams for effectively their entire careers.

Yordan Alvarez had more clutch hits in the 2022 postseason than most all-time greats had ever.

Still lol with Judge hitting meaningless HRs using the fake special balls to break a weak record that nobody really cared about.

Yordan doesn't get 1/100th of the publicity he should, because he plays on the South Coast and is Cuban.
