I remember reading about JFF meeting people in hotel rooms to sign stuff for money but big pros do it too?

Yes. It's cheap and accessible

Makes sense when you think about it.

The don't want them to come to their homes and it's not something they'd meet up at the clubhouse for.

I would just imagine the market to get a big star to do a signing with your memorabilia company is pretty competitive. Seems like a competitor company could offer similar comp rates plus the added pleasure of doing it in a fancy board room or hotel suite even, instead of a $70 a night hotel room.

You have to look at Pena's contract more holistically IMO because a big part of his value is that he's controllable for another five years. When taking into account his arb raises, his "current deal" is going to come in around 5/$40 million. That's obviously an insanely good contract.

Yordan is 6/$115 million. But Yordan's comps are the best of the best players in baseball, almost all of whom have $300 million+ deals. Pena might be in that echelon but might not. Early returns are great but we don't know the full extent of his potential.

If I could only have one, I'd take Yordan. It's not like you can't make a case for Pena though. Good problem to have.

Totally different approach on this topic: I would look for the best player under team control so you get cheap high performance. Someone like 2B Jonathan India, NL ROY in 2021
