They are certainly the group spending the money like it's just a game of monopoly. The thing is only one team can win the East and West and only three others total can make it from LA, SD, SF, ATL, NYM and PHI. And that's assuming only the Central winner makes it.

Someone is getting left out. It would be hilarious if it were the Mets or Pads.
Who is giving up their entire farm system for Ohtani this summer?

Maybe we need to let the Angels think they have a chance for a few months so they hang on to him.

Twins learning from last year's mistake that you sign players for more than one season.

Vasquez to the Twins is kind of a head scratcher. The guy wanted to start, so I guess that's why he chose them. The AL Central is pretty much dog ***** In that aspect, he may have a chance of going to the postseason.

What exactly do you think the Mets should have done instead?

Your options:

1) gut a farm system that is top heavy and not deep to maybe compete for the last wild card, but still have the same problem next year, but absolutely no farm and no way to rebuild unless you do a full year down
2) sign fringed major league players to fill the roster and not be competitive
3) spend a little and trade most of what you have in the farm to maybe be competitive, but higher payroll and still gutted farm
4) you are the richest owner in the game by far, you want to win because you are a life long fan, you laugh at a "tax" named in your honor, and you try to compete

Of those 4 which makes the most sense? These are not the Wilpon lolMets...I what they have done might or might not work, but they are going to win and soon, or Stevo will spend until 1) he's broke, or they do 2) win

I can't imagine this off-season going any better for us.

We watch the Yankees spend a ton of money to bring back their core that we swept. And we get to watch an arms race in the NL that the Dodgers will definitely join in on next year. No matter how good the NL is as a whole, we will only have to face one of those teams if we can make it back to WS and we know very well that the "best" team doesn't mean much in a best of 7.

Just keep drafting/acquiring talent at a better rate than the league and you will keep getting a shot at winning it all. I hate that we may have to let players walk if we aren't willing to join the madness, but these super long term deals that the upper echelon are handing out will really hurt their competitiveness about the time Peña/Yordan are hitting free agency.

Best case scenario is this is a blip and contracts regress to normal ranges and NL teams just get stuck with contracts that are way to big/long to dump.

Furthermore, the new rivalries are advantageous for us

Astros vs Rockies
Texas vs Dbacks
Mariners vs Padres
A's vs SF
Angels vs Dodgers
Yankees vs Mets

My only hope with Maldy is maybe we see a bump in production with a healthy hand and repaired hernia.

Interesting thoughts. I would say the Braves vs. Mets is more the rivalry. Next year for Ohtani is going to be bonkers. Eppler originally signed him in LA, so there is that. But the money...jeez

You definitely will have the Mets, Dodgers, Giants, and maybe Yankees going to fiscal battle for his services.

FWIW I think Schwab sources are the players as opposed to the FO or people within the baseball ops side of things.

He seems to be spot on with clubhouse type rumors but not so much on player transaction stuff.

I really wish we would roll with Vasquez as the starter this year. Hope he does well in Minnesota but at some point, Maldonado's inability to hit will cost us.

Hopefully Lee shows more potential this season

TBH, I am ok with us just picking up Abreu this offseason as the big pickup.

Sign Brantley.

Try Lee/Diaz as backup Catcher.

If it's a problem, use the trade deadline. I do think Varsho would be a nice pickup for the right price, though.

I agree.

Would be fine to roll with the team we have, then see what we need as far as a bat upgrade at the trade deadline.

We already locked into the best pen in baseball. We have a very nice starting rotation (elite if Brown makes the jump I expect). And I love our bats 1 through 6 with Abreu in it.

We do need another bat, but we aren't desperate. Take our time and look for the best deal.

Sorry I wasn't clear, what I meant by rivalries is the inter league rival that you play 4 times annually starting next year. While it is only 1 additional game, I would certainly rather play 4 vs the Rockies in stead of 4 vs the Dodgers, Padres, or Mets.

Sign Brantley and let's roll. I love our starting pitching. Offense got better with Abreu. Pitchers love Maldy and we just won another World Series with him. Let's. Go.

Would love to have Yuli back in a utility role if possible. Is that still on the table?

Varsho: spot catcher and can play all three OF positions. Runs well, hits with power. Pinch hitter, pinch runner, or late inning Maldy replacement. He brings a lot to the roster in a utility role. Young player with possible untapped upside. Do it for the right price.

Brantley without the shift will be lethal
