$43 million per year. So he gets ~$1.6 million per bi-weekly paycheck. I guess you take out around 40% in taxes so he'll get $960,000 every two weeks.

Just trying to imagine that lifestyle. I presume your expenses just increase because you no longer consume cheap anything.

Since it the off-season, it's time to talk crazy.

What about bringing Carlos home?

Follow me here, and I said it was crazy:

Peña is athletic enough to play CF or LF. Move him to one of those spots, slide CC back in at SS. Offer 4/120.

Correa would laugh so hard at 4/120. He's about to get paid.

I did say it was crazy!

No chance it happens. I would like Benintendi.

JV was helped immensely this year by a great pen and a 6 man rotation. He won't have those things in NY.
Don't forget playing great D behind him. I would say we scored a lot of runs in support of him but I'm pretty sure that's not true but I will bet a large sum of money the Mets pen blows more saves for JV than we did.

In fact it I wonder how many wins we cost Verlander last year...maybe 1 but definitely not more than 2.

I don't think Pena would be the one moving to CF in that scenario

Pass on Carlos. We have to find a way to be creative enough to keep as much of our young core as possible. We will be forced to buy or sell on Tuve and Bregman in 2 years. Add in Yordan, Tucker, Framber, Javier, Garcia and Pena and that is going to be some significant $$$ being spent. I'd really like for us to try and lock Tuve up and make him a career Astro. Bregman I'm not sold on as I think he will age poorly.

I am happy that we aren't paying Turner for 11 freaking years. Thats just insane.

I'm sure Alex would love to stay in Houston as well, but he's got another nice payday coming up. I would rather lock up Tucker for a while if I had to pick.

He has a good side gig with the salsas and sauces at HEB. Not sure what he pulls in with that, but could HEB pull the plug if he leaves Houston?

Everyone appreciate Luhnow's savvy move to extend Breggy early. Otherwise, he'd be a FA right now. And he'd likely be getting 8/240 kind of offers.

I also appreciate that Bregman signed that deal because he wanted to stay with the Astros and win.

He's in stores outside of HEB. I am sure he'd love to sell his salsa in LA, Miami, or wherever.

Pretty big day. Turner and JV signing

Just like that the dominoes begin falling. Up next should be Judge, Contreras, Correa and Bogarts

I don't believe for a sec Jeff wouldn't have done the same deal with Correa. As someone already said. Bregman wanted to win and stay. Correa wanted money. I don't blame either.

I wonder if either will look back and have regrets. Carlos already made a quick 35 M and is about to get a 250-300 type deal. Bregman got 2 years at 28.5, but even when he hits the market he's not sniffing what 28-year-old Correa is getting.

Would you rather have 5 playoff runs, a world series title, and 350 M or 8 playoff runs, 2-4 world series titles and 275 M?

If he vests he'll top 400 M. How many baseball players have/will achieve that?

I know of one that has...and not with today's Monopoly money.

$441,285,104

Who dat?

Ahh....the Rangers, throwing ridiculous money around for decades with nothing to show for it. Don't ever change.

I don't blame CC for leaving and taking the money, and anyone who has in the last year out of some kind of silly spite is wrong, but playing in October every year and winning titles means more for one's legacy as a big leaguer. Besides Alex seems pretty savvy and is probably banking on the side.

FWIW, I don't think Lunhow had anything to do with the Bregman extension. I think that might have been negotiated by Jim Crane himself.

So when Bregman signed the 5-year $100 million deal in 2019, that was just an extension and the 5 years were 2020 - 2024?

I'm just curious but at $43mm per year is JV finally the bread winner of that household or does Kate still make more?

Jesus that's insane to think about.

Update - My internet sleuthing reveals he's not even close. Kate made $82mm last year.

Quote:

People With Money reports on Sunday (December 4) that Upton is the highest-paid model in the world, pulling in an astonishing $82 million between November 2021 and November 2022, a nearly $50 million lead over her closest competition.

Basically.

When he signed it he got 10 M in a signing bonus then for the first 3 years of it (during what would have been his arbitration years) we gave him 11 M per. For the last 2 he's getting 28.5 M per. Those 2 are the extra years.

To get his money sooner (maybe very slightly more) and locked in, he basically accepted a 2/57 M deal.

Bregs is from New Mexico and went to school in Louisiana.

He's never gonna seem like the guy that needs a mansion on Miami Beach or in the Hollywood hills to justify himself, like others I won't mention.

We're from Houston. We tear down and rebuild, it's just what we do.

Outside of the Dome to date, we don't pray to buildings or worship humans. We thank them, we remember them, some get retired numbers.

But for the most part we tear down, and rebuild. Love JV, but could give two ****s if his number is retired or not. He was a very high priced visitor with a spank-able wife and I appreciate his time and assistance.

I agree 100%

We've got some weird undeserving retired numbers that did far less for the organization than JV, so I'm not mad at anyone that wants 35 retired…

He will always be an H-town hero for his contributions, but the dude basically played three seasons for us and I don't think anyone that plays three seasons for a franchise should have their number retired.
