I've heard they have no interest in Contreras catching z

I want Vasquez as the starter but like others have said, dusty loves maldy. So I'm compromising.

Seems a platoon of 2 catchers would be more popular in a long season. Especially since most can't hit for dick anywayZ

So who does Correa talk into another 3 year, 3 player option contact for $35MM/year?

I think Minnesota and maybe SF (if they miss on Judge) will give Correa a very similar deal.

Why would Minn do that to themselves again after he already bolted once? I can see SF doing it but not Minn.

They already offered him deals.

"They're offering him different deals to see what he'd like. There's like ten years at a certain AAV, I think eight years at another certain AAV and then a six-year deal, which of course would have the highest AAV, which would be over $30 million a year," Neal said.
The short team deal was always going to be that, short. The Twins knew what they were signing up for.

Sounds like the GM's bonus and job are tied to performance in the short term. Then it will be an easy transition to his next job as a politician.

the Mets payroll is something else...

$43 MM for JV
$43 MM for Scherzer
$32 MM for Lindor
$20 MM for Cano...still paying him in 2023
$19 MM for Marte

where's the development from the minors?
+$1.19 MM for Bonilla

I looked it up.

Only A-Rod has topped 400 M.

1. Alex Rodriguez 455,159,552
2. Miguel Cabrera 353,188,684 (plus 32 M this year)
3. Abert Pujols 341,810,741
4. Justin Verlander 299,588,222 (46.6 over the next 2 then maybe another 35 = 381... so Chandler is including the vesting year)
5. Zack Greinke 277,588,222 (Kershaw will pass him this year)

A few others to note
20. Max Scherzer 197,908,333 (Will reach 374,575,000 with all the money owed to him from Washington, New York, & La)
21. Mike Trout 196,840.125 (Will reach 480,440,125 after 2030)
63. Bryce Harper 144,629,629 (Will reach 366,629,629 after 2031)

Trout wins.

They've got to have Judge in the bag, no? Yankees fans will riot if Cashman misses on Judge and gets extended in the same week.

Since it the off-season, it's time to talk crazy.

What about bringing Carlos home?

Follow me here, and I said it was crazy:

Peña is athletic enough to play CF or LF. Move him to one of those spots, slide CC back in at SS. Offer 4/120.

Pena is a GG SS. You don't move elite defensive players to new positions.

Correa would laugh so hard at 4/120. He's about to get paid.

CC is done as an Astro for all I care. Pena stays and will produce. I would rather go sign Benintendi and maybe see what kind of offer we can throw at Rodon.

Baseball Reference has A-Rod as the top career earner at $399 million. Cabrera second at $368m, then Pujols at $346m, and your friend and mine, Zach Greinke at $330m. Verlander is the only other guy over $300m at $317m.

Pretty nuts considering how long it's been since A-Rod played.

Other Astros in the top 100 all-time include

Carlos Beltran, 13th, $221m
Randy Johnson, 30th, $175m
Roger Clemens, 54th, $150m
Gerrit Cole, 89th, $133m
Hunter Pence, 97th, $130m
Carlos Lee, 98th, $129m

There are also some really hilarious entries in there of guys who signed a huge deal during some free agent renaissance and played out the law of diminishing returns. Notably, Chris Davis and Jason heyward.
