I want Vasquez as the starter but like others have said, dusty loves maldy. So I'm compromising.
Seems a platoon of 2 catchers would be more popular in a long season. Especially since most can't hit for dick anywayZ
I think Minnesota and maybe SF (if they miss on Judge) will give Correa a very similar deal.Mathguy64 said:
So who does Correa talk into another 3 year, 3 player option contact for $35MM/year?
Why would Minn do that to themselves again after he already bolted once? I can see SF doing it but not Minn.Farmer1906 said:I think Minnesota and maybe SF (if they miss on Judge) will give Correa a very similar deal.Mathguy64 said:

Astros' free-agent losses the last four seasons:
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) December 5, 2022
Gerrit Cole after 2019 (went to ALCS in 2020)
George Springer after 2020 (went to World Series in 2021)
Carlos Correa after 2021 (won World Series in 2022)
Justin Verlander after 2022 (???)
They already offered him deals.Mathguy64 said:Why would Minn do that to themselves again after he already bolted once? I can see SF doing it but not Minn.Farmer1906 said:I think Minnesota and maybe SF (if they miss on Judge) will give Correa a very similar deal.Mathguy64 said:

The short team deal was always going to be that, short. The Twins knew what they were signing up for.Quote:
"They're offering him different deals to see what he'd like. There's like ten years at a certain AAV, I think eight years at another certain AAV and then a six-year deal, which of course would have the highest AAV, which would be over $30 million a year," Neal said.
This new contract will increase Justin Verlander's career earnings to $371,115,000

Verlander will have the rare distinction of being one of the few players to have his number retired by two different organizations. No one should ever wear 35 in Houston again.

Sounds like the GM's bonus and job are tied to performance in the short term. Then it will be an easy transition to his next job as a politician.Farmer1906 said:

If he vests he'll top 400 M. How many baseball players have/will achieve that?
The Met's realize this is baseball, not basketball right?RyanC said:+$1.19 MM for BonillaW said:

Since it the off-season, it's time to talk crazy.
What about bringing Carlos home?
Follow me here, and I said it was crazy:
Peña is athletic enough to play CF or LF. Move him to one of those spots, slide CC back in at SS. Offer 4/120.
The Astros are eyeing Andrew Benintendi, Michael Brantley and Michael Conforto, per @Ken_Rosenthal.
— Michael Schwab (@michaelschwab13) December 5, 2022
He also said the Astros are interested in bringing Christian Vazquez back to share the job with Martin Maldonado.
Baseball Reference has A-Rod as the top career earner at $399 million. Cabrera second at $368m, then Pujols at $346m, and your friend and mine, Zach Greinke at $330m. Verlander is the only other guy over $300m at $317m.Farmer1906 said:EastCoastAgNc said:This new contract will increase Justin Verlander's career earnings to $371,115,000
