Any reason not to add them until other deals are signed that require a space?
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I think we are looking at a 3-4 year window where the Astros could win another WS, and then probably 2-3 years of decline where overpriced washed up guys are brought in to try to fill holes and keep the team in playoff contention.

Then the rebuild comes.

I don't blame the owner for trying to win another with this core, but to keep winning without needing a tear down you've got to be really smart about everything, including the small moves.

Not that I'm aware of. These guys aren't major prospects but it's basically no risk. The only excuse is pure laziness or incompetence.

Edit: there is one reason, which is that you actually want them to get drafted. I believe you get $100k in compensation.

Of which Lunhow and Click showed they were both capable of doing. Lunhow was better at marrying going for the splash and making the value moves, which is why I think Crane respected him until the scandal.

That's the reason there is some question about why letting Click go.

I just hope the next GM is like Lunhow without the baggage. To hit on 3 GMs 3 times on a row would be awesome.

Edit for I trust Crane to hire the right person until he doesn't.

Crap. Thought he was a great bang for the buck.
$19.65MM! I would accept that too!
I'm fine with Joc...without the pearl necklace of course.

Joc is like the weirder version of that greasy Philly CF. No thanks.

If you add them and then drop them. They're gone.

If you don't add them, they get drafted, and the drafting team can't keep them up, you get them back.

You don't want them drafted. You want good prospects.

But if they drafted then you get compensation.

Seems like if you don't anticipate them sticking on the 40 man you're better off if they're drafted as opposed to adding them only to be dropped later.

That right?

Votes were cast before the playoffs ie back when Dusty sucked.

Correct. It's actually $50k. Not much for a billionaire but I guess it's something.

He wouldn't have won it even if the voters were made up of exclusively of the regulars of this thread.

For good reason.

No one thinking Dusty is manager of the year is just proof that the '22 Astros were going to win a bunch of games regardless of the manager.

I disagree. I get where many here would like Dusty to use modern analytics more than he does but many of the same were *****ing about A.J. relying on them too much.

Another opinion that no one asked for is Brantley and Alvarez are both DH players. Yes, they both are ok in LF, but one is old and always hurt, and the other has had injury issues and is an adventure on anything not routine.

If you are dodgers or the Stanks going after JV is all profit best case you over pay him and no one blames you. Worst case you blow up the Astros payroll whose budget is substantially less than yours

I conquer. Outside of 1B, the most important position that needs to be addressed is LF. Yordan's bat is way to valuable to risk having him in LF everyday. It's just a matter of time for him to either pull something or have more knee problems.

Obviously it's not easy to do but if only Yordan could play 1B. I guess Brad Pitt could teach him to play first base.

I actually think if anyone tries to legitimately pull JV in it's going to be the Mets. They're right there and I think they're gonna make a run for it.

New ballpark plans for KC. I understand why they need to do it, but it's too bad. Kaufman is awesome.

Aren't the Mets on the verge of losing a crap ton of their rotation? That'll leave a mark

And the Braves and Phillies will still be very good. Mets might still be good but those pitching losses could result in a much lower win total.

I don't understand the need, Kaufman Stadium is the one park built during the '60s & '70s that is actually a great ballpark.

Did you go see the Astros in June? That's when we went. Weather was 72 degrees on Friday night. Yordan hit a homer, good guys won, and fireworks. It was an amazing night.

Astros can prioritize better than average OBP guys with average power in free agency, imo. They have enough power elsewhere, need batters who are better than average at avoiding outs and getting on base. Uncle Mike returning healthy would go a long way.

Sounds like team is moving on from Yuli, that's tough but he just took a dive in '22 from '21.

I understand the interest in Rizzo, though now no longer available.

Counterintuitively would be going after a Joey Gallo, buying low and betting on a resurgence with the shift going away.

I agree it's an excellent park but that concrete desert it sits on next to Arrowhead halfway out to the suburbs is not. Think they'd prefer a ballpark neighborhood to everyone having to bring hours' worth of tailgating material if they don't plan on just showing up to the game right before first pitch.

Glad to have been before it goes, regardless.

As I understand this, Astros are in rather good shape for the next two to three seasons. If the Montero contract is any indication Crane may overpay to keep the team together during this horizon.

aren't the mets on the hook for Cano next year at $20M, but I guess he doesn't go against the cap?

Can't forget about Bobby Bonilla, he is 60 this year and still getting his $1M+ check in July!!!

Just don't see the Mets having the space for 2/$80M or 3/$120M for JV.
