Maybe Crane just enjoys and is driven by public/media scorn. Now that we've won and the sign stealing stuff is further behind us, he needs a refresh of material.

I guess. What he said to reporters wasn't anything bad at all.

It's his team and he can run it how he wants but it sure feels like he's teetering on the edge of screwing this up. It feels like he's about to be Jerry Jones.

Agreed. Asssume he was talking to others. His interviews were fine imo

What did Click really do in terms of personnel?

Luhnow was the one who built the farm system and team.

I did like him bringing in Graveman in 2021, but it was a rent-a-player

Didn't sign correa
Locked up yordan
Brought in Vasquez and Mancini for very little, yes mancini didn't do much but the move was right
We still have hunter brown

His moves seem to be the lack of moves as of now.

I'm just making the argument for him. I don't know

I know its highly unlikely we would hire luhnow, im just saying it would feel sooooo good and would be the biggest middle finger we could give.

That said we should hire Sig.

My guess is, Crane holds on to the rest of the team to run baseball operations. Then hires someone in after the 2023 season. No long term deals are done. Only 1-2 year deals in FA with guys Crane is more familar with. Not ideal when trying to repeat.
Agree with the structure and that Stearns takes over the day he's available, but I don't think we'll miss a beat this year.
Yup.

But you know me. I am a guy who cares about the margins. Crane and his team of Dusty, Reggie Jackson, Jeff Bagwell are not who I want to make decisions about who low-key reliever we can sign and have a major impact on. They're not the ones who can evaluate internal prospects for a deadline trade. There are ton of little things that could be missed now. I like having the edge and being ahead of the curve. This aint it.

Crane is not changing the make up of our player development organization after all this success

You can't fire someone that's not under contract. Sounds like Crane rescinded the offer but that's not the same thing.

Click built the BP we have now, made the call to bring up guys like Framber, Javier, Luis, made the call to ride with Pena.

The notion that Click hadn't done much is BS.

This will sting especially if Crane wants to do patchwork in house GM by committee crap until Stearns is available next year.

Eh, I feel Crane is the best owner in MLB.

He took over a franchise that had to deal with a lot of bull**** (loss of historic rivalries/roots), set the stage for Luhnow and the analytics folks, hired Dusty/managed the cheating scandal fallout, won 2 World Series, and kept the Astros at the peak of the sport through a constant shuffling of baseball management personnel.

Crane better not take up GM duties himself. We don't need a Jerry Jones here.

Sure he is. No Click, no Pete Putila (Now Giants GM), Oz Ocampo (Marlins Assistant GM). Most of the top guys developed under Jeff left already too (Sterns, Elias, Mejdal, Taubman). Who's to say everyone else who worked under Click stays? He could vs the next GM in Det and bring his people with him.

I called this after hearing Crane speak at Dusty's presser. I am gunna have to wait and hold judgement on this decision. Lots of stories out there on Crane trumping him on decisions, and butting heads.

My guess is a lot of the decisions that went down over the last few years Click opposed and Crane/crew went against him and things worked out still. With the success Crane decided he wants someone different??

With that said Crane doesn't need to hire a "yes" man. That's what I am scared of.

Brought back Brantly, picked up Yuli's extension, Goodrum, Dubon, Odo, Castro, all the draft picks. He's done plenty. I'd grade him a solid B.

I'm not sure why anyone would want correa with the dodgers or yankees. Thinking it will cause conflict and destroy the team from within is wishful thinking imo.

This is about right. I think Click is probably good, not great. If Crane is making a move like this, he needs to have a plan. Alienating and then firing Click without something lined up is just his ego getting in the way and not a good sign.

I posted yesterday I don't think Crane liked having to step in anytime something big was happening (ie JV resigning, Yordan extension).

Just my gut but I think Click was used to operating on a tB budget and would get cold feet on some of these big deals and Crane would step in.

I'm guessing Crane wants someone who can do this without having to babysit.

Let's also not forget our GM had to trade not 1 but 2 CFs so our manager would stop platooning them. Last year specifically with straw that was flat out moneyball, "no art you can't play Peña bc he plays for Philadelphia now" type move.

If click wouldn't have moved Siri this year we would probably have seen platooning all the way through the playoffs.

It's hard to criticize anybody since we just won it all but I still think Dusty hamstrings whatever GM you put in place to a small degree by doing it his old school way

I wonder if its just the opposite. He let Lunhow do that and it burned him bad so he's decided to oversee it much more closely.

Hell. No.

I appreciate what Lunhow built, but you cannot, cannot cost your team because of poor ethics. It's not just the cheating, it's the moves like Osuna. Brought uncessary heat all in the name of winning.

As Click proved, you can bring good guys in who are just as good, or in many cases better in the pursuit of wining.

Lunhow certainly can find talent in the guys to build an organization, but I don't trust him not to turn a blind eye.
