1 closer

Vander, let me ask you a question... not a gotcha question because I dont know the answer either..... but you propose signing 2 SP's including and ace..... so is one of those Perez?
My point is if Perez is resigned for lets say 3yrs
and a true Ace who will want at least 4 yrs..... where do you slot Leiter, Rocker and Winn?
1. Ace
2 . Gray for 3 more yrs
3. Perez for 3 more yrs

Rocker and Leiter will be back-end of the rotation guys for their first few years in the MLB, but, and this is a big but, neither of these guys are close to the MLB. Leiter needs likely another full season in the minors, Rocker is going to need at least all of next season in the minors (unless he's a freak show minor league pitcher just mowing guys down), and for me, the ship has sailed on Winn.

I wasn't including Perez but at the end of the day if we sign Perez and only get a true Ace I will be happy. Then we could have 3 solid pitchers at the front of the rotation but I wouldn't mind adding one more.

Tbh Martin Perez turning around and being bad after this season would be one OC the most uniquely Rangers twists of the knife possible. Count me amongst those not certain he's going to repeat this season

Wut? Cole Winn is 22 years old and only has 2 full season in the minors under belt. He definitely had a bad season this year at AAA, but come on dude. Writing him off already?

I was at my desk watching the game on tv. What happened exactly? The camera didn't pan out enough. Did Taveras fall over or something?

I get that, but if you go look at his standard pitching and advanced analytics, most of them are AWFUL. He could still end up being a solid MLB pitcher, but I don't see him as a front line starter anymore.

Winn faded pretty hard down the stretch, but you have to consider he's a young guy that pitched 39 games total over the course of the previous 3 years and then pitched 28 just this year. His birthday is between Rocker and Leiter's. He may never make it, but it's really really early to make that call. I need to see how he responds on 2023

1 out and Taveras was on second. Fly ball to RCF was caught (pretty routine for the most part). Taveras took off like there were two outs; either that or he thought it was going to drop. Regardless, he was easily doubled off at second to end the game.

The replay's didn't show the third base coach. So no idea if Taveras went totally on his own or if the coach (Ragsdale) was sending him. I doubt Ragsdale was sending him though, the announcers would have said something most likely if so.

3-0 pitch to Semien lined to right field. Leody I guess thought it was going in the gap and took off. Turned out to be a pretty easy fly ball to right and he was doubled off at second. No clue why he thought he needed to run without seeing where the ball was going, especially with his speed

Reading/skimming the Scott Lucas updates, sounded his biggest issue was command. Too many walks and his strikes were too hitable (not hitting his spots). Sounded like his velocity is/was fine. So maybe a tweak or two in his mechanics would help get him squared away. Or maybe the increase in competition was a big step up, and he'll have more confidence next year. We'll see, but 2022 was definitely a disappointment for sure. Way too young to throw the towel in on Winn imo.

I'll go with no repeat.....but would 17-5 with a 3.25 era be a good season from Perez in '23 ... I say yes.... and could be achieved with more consistent offense.

The broadcast showed one of the trainers looking at him in the dugout afterwards like he was hurt or something. So I was thinking he fell or tweaked a knee trying to come back to second. He definitely stopped between 2nd and 3rd on the fly ball and it appeared like he was trying to come back

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but if you're excluding Perez there is almost zero chance Texas signs 2 legitimate starting pitchers (including an ace).

Yeah, that's all we'd need to be competitive... That's all most teams need to be competitive.

Most likely way to get two legit SP's is to sign one and trade for the other.

Wonder if Judge would like to hit a lot more home runs in Arlington? Judge, Garcia, Taveras - outfield next year.

Legit SP with multiple years left gut your farm system.

We may get a #2ish guy and Perez. That's what I'd hope for realistically.

My first game in GLF was Kluber's no-hitter. Tonight I got to see Judge's 62nd. Cool moments, but man am I ready to see something good for the Rangers happen in that place. Fingers crossed for next year

SURPRISE, Ariz. Kumar Rocker fired his first pitches with "Rangers" splayed across his chest Tuesday night at Surprise Stadium, home to Texas' Spring Training complex.

The velocity was there. The snap on his breaking pitches was there. And for the first time since he was chosen with the third overall pick in the 2022 Draft, the crowd was there.

Rocker worked one scoreless frame for the Saguaros, consistently sitting at 95-96 mph with his heater, ramping it up as high as 97. He threw just nine of his 28 pitches for strikes and walked the bases loaded, but ultimately escaped unscathed with one strikeout to his credit. The punchout came off Mariners' No. 21 prospect Robert Perez Jr., who swung at three sliders that were down and out of the zone.

"He looked really good," Saguaros catcher Cody Freeman said. "He was around the zone a little bit, but he got back in there and pounded it. He's going to be something special."

Freeman, a fourth-round selection by Texas in the 2019 Draft out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., was the lone Surprise hitter to produce a multihit outing in Peoria's 6-4 victory. Tuesday marked his first time catching Rocker, the club's No. 8 prospect.

Rocker's path to pitching in affiliated ball has been arduous: taken with the 10th overall pick by the Mets in the 2021 Draft, the hard-throwing righty did not sign after concerns emerged from a physical. He was thus eligible to be taken in '22 and the Rangers surprised many prognosticators by taking him as early as they did.

The 6-foot-5 right-hander featured a revamped motion with Surprise, which was much more rigid and upright than during his college days. His stuff was fastball-heavy, and he went through a stretch of throwing seven consecutive balls, eventually resulting in Freeman jogging to the mound for a visit.

"I was just giving him a little breather," said Freeman, who caught a pair of no-hitters earlier this summer with High-A Hickory. "I told him to relax and enjoy the moment."

The outing marked the first time Rocker took the hill since a five-start stint with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the independent Frontier League this summer. The 22-year-old dominated over his 20 innings there, striking out 32 batters with four walks on his ledger. He yielded just three earned runs and showcased his top-tier arsenal, setting the stage for Texas to select him as its first-round pick this past June.

Looks like he had some command issues. Not surprised. He'll work it out.

In the video above, Rocker was using his slide step from the looks of it. In regards to his motion, he probably worked with the Rangers on tightening up his delivery and making it more repeatable.

Word is Yankee fans are making donations of $99.62 to the Rangers Foundation as a thank you for actually pitching to Judge, as opposed to other teams over the last week.
