6 months of total garbage is almost over.

Anybody have a decent guess on our starting lineup for '23?

Total garbage is a little harsh. There is a lot to be excited for next season

There's hope, but with the investment made last offseason, the contributors in this lineup, and getting the year they did out of Perez, looking at losing north of 90 games is very disappointing

Total garbage is tough, and I think we do have something to be excited for going into next season. However, with how poorly this team has played at times, I am curious as to if or how much the owners are going to open their bank accounts to acquire more pitching. I was confident they would go all in this offseason a month ago, but now I am more hesitant. It can sting a little after investing as much as they did and then see little to no overall progress in terms of wins. I also think it is safe to say that we have no help coming from the minor leagues any time soon. Our best pitching prospects are likely a full season or more away from helping this team in any capacity.

I could see a scenario where the owners don't really want to spend much more but instead want to trade prospects we have for MLB ready guys. I would even go as far as saying I would be comfortable trading guys like Leiter if it meant we got an MLB ready player with similar upside.

Looks like DMN offered the following:

SP
Wacha
Perez
Gray
Taillon
Ragans

DH- Garver
2 - Heim
3 - Lowe
4 - Semien
5 - Jung
6 - Seager
7 - Conforto
8 - Taveras
9 - Garcia

The Bally talking heads mentioned Owen White being the most MLB ready pitcher in AA, suggesting he might be a nice contributor to the bullpen next year.

Disagree. We went from 0 pitchers to 1 there are still 4 spots to fill and we couldn't fo it. Our offense was decent this year, our pitching killed us.

Total garbage is a huge overstatement.

Signing Semien (7yr) and Seager (10yr) were not short term investments.

We all knew they needed to find out what they had from a pitching perspective and with just a few tweaks... this team is drastically better from a record perspective.

14-33 in one-run games when you are 66-89 is not as bad as it looks.

Go 24-23 and your record is no 76-79.

We went most of the season with 3.5 SPs.
Gray was our #4 with 23GS.
Hearn was our #5 and he only got 13GS.
Howard was #6 with 8.

If we keep Perez (and all accounts are we will), Gray is healthy and we get one more legit SP... we'll be fine.

Perez, a manager, another SP, and a couple RPs that are lockdown and this team is a playoff team.

If all those things fall our way, we are a 2nd or 3rd wildcard.

Without some major moves on the SP front - which I don't forsee happening - we'll start the season projected at best 3rd in the division... possibly 4th.

Things are better, but they still aren't close to anything but a fringe contender.

The real gut punch for this season is that we didn't have a single minor league pitcher (of high caliber) step up or do anything head turning. I would argue our minor league pitchers took a step back this season, and that really hurts.

Yep. Pitching, pitching, pitching. Until this is rectified our ceiling is limited. And I don't think it will come from FA signings. We have to build from within. Hoping the young arms we have in the minors take the next step on their development

I hear what you're saying and agree as it relates to the highest profile guys (Winn and Leiter) but there were a few lower level guys who have come back from injuries and really impressed like Owen White, Mason Englert, and Zak Kent. Let's hope Leiter adjusts better to pro ball next year and Rocker is what we hope he is. I'm more worried about Winn, but not giving up on him yet either. All we need is 2 of those 6 guys to be legit and I think we're in pretty good shape with the addition of one more quality major league arm via trade or free agency and resigning Perez.

I know when you say high caliber, you are talking Leiter, Winn, Ragans, White, et al...

but it wasn't all bad news from the minor league guys:

Otto (26): Could solidify a #5. He is approaching 5IP/GS and keeping his Runs down.
'21: 6 GS, 9.26 ERA, 23.1 IP, 28 SO
'22: 25 GS, 4.73 ERA, 123.2 IP, 95 SO

Burke (25-L): Transitioned well to the BP.
'19: 6 GS, 7.43 ERA, 26.2 IP, 14 SO
'22: 51 G, 1.78 ERA, 81.0 IP, 89 SO

Hernandez (25-R): Continued his success in BP.
'20: 27 G, 2.90 ERA, 31.0 IP, 31 SO
'22: 26 G, 2.30 ERA, 27.1 IP, 25 SO

Hearn (27-L): Maybe not that young, anymore... could find a home in the BP
SP: 13 GS, 6.25 ERA, 59.0 IP, 54 SO
RP: 16 GP, 3.75 ERA, 36.0 IP, 40 SO

Winn (22-AAA): Maybe expectations were too high. Another year in AAA won't be terrible.
Englert (22-A+, AA): 24GS, 3.64 ERA
White (22-A+, AA): 14GS, 3.59 ERA
Leiter (22-AA): 23 GS, 5.54 ERA
Ragans (24-MLB): 8 GS, 5.40 ERA - Got some innings. Hopefully something to build on.

What is expected of Matt Moore? I would think he is looking in the offseason for a SP role. He was great out of the BP, and if we brought him back in RP, that'd give us 3 Lefties and 1 RHP locked up. We'd also have Barlow whom I don't count as a Closer.

Matt Bush could come back...

Outfield seats are sold out. Left field seats for the last game are over $300 on StubHub.

Plenty of upper outfield seats available from ticket office, and 100 left left field is a $60 ticket (which is around face).

It's a big deal to Yankees fans to see it, but not going to be some super hot ticket.

Good news! The Marlins just won. They are now a 1/2 game ahead of us if we lose. Moves us in to the 8 spot in the draft if I am calculating correctly.

https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022/9/5/mlb-draft-lottery-expected-to-take-place-december-6-during-winter-meetings

Quote:

While nothing has been formally announced, sources tell Prospects Live that Major League Baseball is expected to announce the inaugural MLB Draft lottery will take place on December 6 during the MLB Winter Meetings in San Diego, California.

The newly-minted draft lottery will be the first of it's kind for Major League Baseball after being negotiated into the new collective bargaining agreement this past winter.

The lottery will involve only the first six picks in each year's draft. Every single team that does not qualify for the postseason will be eligible for the lottery and will have a chance at the No. 1 overall pick, with weighted odds assigned based on winning percentage. The three-worst records will have the greatest chance at securing the first overall pick, each of whom will have a 16.5 percent chance of "winning" the lottery. While unlikely, this means the worst possible outcome for the team with worst record in baseball would be the No. 7 overall pick.
. . .
As for post-2023, revenue sharing teams (nearly half of the league) are not eligible for a lottery pick more than two years in a row. Teams that are required to pay revenue sharing (the other half of the league/bigger markets) are not eligible for a lottery pick more than one year in a row.

6 months of total garbage is correct...... nxt season is yet to be determined. Perez sub 3 era and only won 12, adolis over 100 rbi's, added what? 70-80 million to 2022 payroll and still wont get to 70 wins.

I am really happy for Adolis. His story is all about perseverance and overcoming some pretty crazy circumstances in life. I am also extremely happy for and proud of Martin Perez. His story with the rangers is also amazing/fascinating, and this goes for much of this year. Watching Semien, Seager and Lowe has been awesome for the most part. Finally getting to see our prized possession Josh Jung was extremely exciting, but yet we are on the doorstep of another 95 loss season. I never expected this team to make the playoffs this year, or even finish above .500. But I did expect them to be much closer to .500. So finishing up this season leaves a sour taste in my mouth, and sends me into the offseason thinking we've still got some MAJOR changes we need to make, but with an uncertain path on how to address them.
