Yeah, trading Garcia with that many years of control would make no flippin sense. I assume this was all much ado about nothing rumor simply due to trying to get him a day off

I like Adolis Garcia, but he's not some franchise cornerstone or even all-star caliber player. He's around a .250 hitter, good power, good speed, tons of swing and miss, and the occasional boneheaded play in the outfield (although a plus defender overall). He's also an older guy in the MLB already.
Both Tepid and Lucas are solid.rbtexan said:
For anyone who's interested, I'd recommend a podcast that is done by The Ticket called Diamond Pod. Features Scott Lucas, Michael Tepid and Sean Bass. It's pretty informative - Lucas and Tepid watch the minor league players a LOT, and having tried a number of Rangers-related podcasts, I think theirs is the best, and most accurate.
It's free, I subscribed on iTunes and listen it to it regularly. They do it about once a week.
* DallasAg, you'd especially like it because they bash the front office and Woodward on the regular :-)
I never really basked Woodward. I saw him as managing the talent he has to a season's end. Don't have Bally's, so I went from watching/listening to 130+ games a season... to about 10-15.rbtexan said:

That's one of the few advantages of being a Ranger's fan living in Tennessee. I subscribe to the MLB app every year and can watch all the games. I sure hope they get that Bally's nonsense figured out for you guys soon.DallasAg 94 said:I never really basked Woodward. I saw him as managing the talent he has to a season's end. Even Mrs DallasAg 94 says, "I sure miss hearing baseball."

dang if Rangers are shopping Adolis, I hope they at least included him as an MLB player in a package for Soto

Howard in particular feels like a one step forward two steps back type of pitcher.

I'm not sure what the fascination is with tanking. Unless you're in the mix to get one of the top 2 or 3 picks in the MLB draft, it doesn't make a bit of sense. It's not the NFL. In addition, the teams that are worse than the Rangers now are going to magically get better. If anything, they're selling off pieces and will probably be worse than they already are.
We should be past the point as an organization of trying to do anything except improve and win.
Comments, if I may...Tksymm7 said:
Well, as the Rangers fade into irrelevance for this season and I watch less and less, I've got a few things that interest me for the Rangers and the MLB as a whole.
1. The Rangers absolutely need to embrace their younger generation of players. I and many of you are so tired of seeing Calhoun, Culberson, Miller, etc. We need to start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for this rebuild with young, fresh faces.
2. The owners need to heavily contemplate if Woodward is the guy for the future or not THIS OFFSEASON (I lean towards not, but some might like him).
3. Pitching is coming from the lower ranks and hopefully they hit, and they become superstars. But I still think the rangers need to go out this offseason and either trade for or sign some guys.
4. The MLB is gearing up for one hell of a postseason. There are so many good/great teams after the deadline. Houston, Atlanta, San Diego, LA, Seattle, Milwaukee, and both New York teams. There's probably more, but the postseason looks like it will be crazy.
5. It will be really nice not having to hear about and deal the CBA this offseason. Plus, is Manfred going to get the can? Because he gets more incompetent each month that passes.
Aren't you falling into the same trap you did last season (assuming that the Rangers aren't going to be active with trades/FA signings)?DallasAg 94 said:
Now that we're approaching the off-season... some conversations to think about.
Payroll expectations for 2023 - Helps to gauge FA activity
SP projections - Who do we have? Who do we need? Pipeline?!
OF projections - Same
Too soon? Ignore for a couple weeks.
I believe the Rangers are on the hook for $81.5M in 2023. I think COTS projects all-in the Rangers are at about $97M, when you consider Serfs. That would mean the Rangers have about $40M for Arbs and FA signing to get to 2022 payroll.
Coming off the books from 2022:
Odor: $12.33M
Andrus: $7.25M
Arihara: $2.6M
Perez: $4M
Moore: $2.5M
Culberson: $1.75M
======= $30.5M =======
Dead Money:
Brad Miller in 2023: $4M
Options:
Leclerc
Calhoun
Richards: $1M club option.
Perez, Moore, and Bush are the only real loses from a productivity perspective, so the team should have plenty of money to improve the personnel.
Most of that should likely go to SP. JD seemed to indicate they felt they had enough internal options to replace Bush (and subsequently Moore). GM speak for "that is the least of my concerns."
I'm surprised Moore didn't get moved. If they extend Perez and Moore, we'll essentially have the same team back for next year, but for less money.
As Mr Gigem stated, I'm just laying the conversation starter.rbtexan said:Aren't you falling into the same trap you did last season (assuming that the Rangers aren't going to be active with trades/FA signings)?DallasAg 94 said:

Having little money committed is a huge advantage IMO. Gives the team more flexibility to sign several players, or spend big on one or two impact players. None of us thought they'd spend any money last year, and $550M later....
