That was the only reason I didn't care if the Rangers decided to snag him. The price was going to be astronomically low and if he goes down and figures something out. Cool. If not, you didn't give up anything g worth worrying about anyway.

Never though Gallo was a bad guy or teammate. It was a brutal stretch for him in New York. Maybe he gets back on track with the Dodgers, but the LA sports media isn't much better or more realistic than the NY sports media…..

Gallo really needs to go to a smaller market, where he'll be under less scrutiny and can focus on trying to fix whatever is wrong.

Realistically, he's a 200-250 hitter with power - and most likely closer to the low end average-wise. Lots of Ks and walks. He's never going to hit for a decent average IMO.

He's such a hole in the lineup due to the K's. And so many of his HR's are with the bases empty. His RBI to HR rate is 2 to 1. When you boil it all down, I just don't see nearly enough run production to warrant the hole he creates. I would also be concerned how he handles actual pennant race and playoff pressure. His head just doesn't seem built for it

I think guys like Gallo could improve their batting averages and shrink their K%, they're MLB hitters after all. However, there has to be almost a total swing change and a COMPLETE change in hitting mentality/approach. It's up to those guys though to change.

I was at Yankee Stadium last Thursday for what ended up being Gallo's last game in the line up for NY. The fans there were really rooting for him to do something big but everytime he struck out (all 3 ABs), he got unceremoniously booed.

I like Joey Gallo but he has to change his game if he wants to continue being a big leaguer.

On the flip side, even as a Yankee hater, Judge's walk off blast was awesome. A no doubter off the bat.

They usually don't know they are being shopped until after the trade is finalized.

Looks like a big nothing burger at the deadline for the Rangers.

Shocking they didn't trade Moore. Guess there wasn't much of a market for him.

A bit surprised the rangers didn't do anything outside of trading Matt Bush, but it's not a big deal. They can wheel and deal in the offseason too.

Yep, the pitcher we got for Matt Bush will need a spot on the 40 soon, and we already have some upcoming prospects that will as well. DallasAg 94 is usually pretty good at digging up the 40 man roster details and analysis.

It varies.

Martin Perez was pretty vocal that he didn't want to be traded. Woody (Manager) indicated he had frequent conversations with Perez managing the relationship. Talked about the business side of things.

Some players, as Mr Gigem mentioned get blindsided. Usually the team wants to notify the player, but it has not been uncommon for a player to get a text from a friend, or hear about it on a radio broadcast.

For some, it becomes a distraction and they lose focus and their performance drops. For others, it motivates them to be more focused.

I always liken it to dating. Sometimes the signs are there, sometimes you get caught by your gf sneaking out of her bff's apt at 2am.

There can still be some trades. Not sure what the CBA has changed.

It used to be, players just need to clear Waivers, now.

You find many teams that will put players on waivers soon (this week) that they try to get through. These are players with crazy contracts (Strausburg, maybe). If someone claims them, you can let them go to dump a huge dead salary or you can pull them back... or work out a trade.

Hosmer could be such a player.

Once cleared, you are open to trade that player without having to clear again.

Also, I'm not sure how minor league players fall in to this. I think if a player isn't on your 40, you are open to trade them. This was something you could do so that if a team likes a player that is Rule V eligible you may trade them to a team that is willing to give up something for them to ensure they get them. It also then doesn't require them to keep them on their roster during the next season.

Once the dust clears, I'll give an update on Rule V players. Scott Lucas, et al, often give a read-out with their thoughts. He is far more knowledgeable and updated. I just don't get his newsletter. I used to love reading his daily updates.

Trading Garcia seems weird to me. I don't get it other than to say sometimes you get enamored with horse-trading that you get drawn in to do something. There is a thrill to it, I suppose.

Up side to keep:
He is controlled for 3 more years as Arbs.
He is a 20/20 guy. Could be a 30/30 guy.
We'd have 1 of 3 OF positions filled.

Up side to trade:
He has controllable value for a team that gets him.
Could be a 30/30 guy for the team that gets him.
