Reds just traded LF Pham to Red Sox.

Looks like the market for Soto has likely dried up.

Lots of OFs moved.

Add Brad Miller to that, too.

Bubba Thompson needs to get the call. He can play LF can't he?

You can try to mis-characterize my comments if it makes you feel better.

You say JD doesn't telegraph his moves, but all he did in 2019 was declare we were going to fill 3B externally. All comments were focused on Rendon. It was a ruse. The new stadium was opening in 2020 and he knew he had to create buzz in order to sell ticket.

Pressure was mounting because the Rangers got a $500M bond passed for a new stadium and immediately dismantled the team. You can't deny that everyone on here and in DFW that follows the Rangers were excited about a raised payroll expected to reach $165M and become competitive.

I said multiple times that they would land at $140-145M. And they did.
It was well known there was a 7yr offer on the table to the tune of $200M+

It was later reported that the Rangers never really made the offer to the Agent. Why would a GM (JD) go to an agent and offer less years and less money if the GM was serious about signing the player?!

Yes... I'm still a bit pissed that the Rangers played the fans and JD was the front-man. They knew with a new stadium, they didn't need to field a competitive team and pretended like they tried. They did the same thing with a SP that season. They came in at 3yr/less AAV than the 4yr already known on the table.

Just so I'm clear.

You're upset that the Rangers gave generic lip service to the fans and the community about an investment in the team when they wanted to get a stadium built.

You're further upset that Rangers GM gave generic lip service to their willingness to go after big name free agents in the off-season.

You're further upset that we did not go better than 6/192M ($32M AAS) for Anthony Rendon -- who eventually signed for 7/245M ($35M AAS).

So if we're going with "do what it takes", lets say we offered 7/252M ($36 AAS) just to get it done.

For a guy that 3 seasons into the contract -- now at 32 years old -- will have played in just 40% of the Angels games putting up a combined WAR of 2.6 for roughly $100M.

If we empty the coffers for Rendon, we don't get both Seager and Semien. Either one of those guys has produced more in 4 months than Rendon has in 3 seasons.

I mean... Of all the dumbest hills to die on, this has to be on your dumbest

Yep 2 players that deserve/ need a call up is Bubba and Ragans.

I am all in favor of bringing up the youth to get a taste during this second half. If we end up making a run, so be it. If we continue losing, that just makes our potential draft slot better

Agreed. I've been calling for these two to get a look soon. Let's see how they do. Unload Calhoun or Miller to make room for Thompson.

And by unload, we'll have to release them because we aren't getting anything via a trade.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Calhoun and Miller released after tomorrow. It's time to see what we got in Hernandez and Bubba.
DallasAg 94

I too, would like to see Bubba Thompson.

He has CF-50, LF-20, RF-9

So, he has played all 3 OF positions, specifically LF.

He strikes out a bunch, though. 79G, 341 AB, 95 SO, .302, 13 HR, 48 SB, .354 OBP

Is that right?! 48 SBs?! 3CS?!

103 H - 12 (2B), - 3 (3B) - 13 (HR) + 22 SB
That means he was on 1B 97 times and SB 48 of those times. No telling how many of those other 46 times there was someone on 2nd preventing him from a SB.

Yeah, Bubba is extremely five tool, but he does have pretty significant swing and miss in his game. Still though, he deserves a legitimate chance to play LF every day. The deal with Ragans is that he has already gone over his highwater mark for innings pitched in a season. He's almost at 100 this year and the Rangers do need to monitor his health and fatigue because he's had significant health problems in his career.

That's pretty much the worst case scenario. What happened and what looks injured? I can't watch the game tonight because of the Astros being on national TV and at home.

Hard to say, nothing obvious. Reading lips, looked like he said something about his back to the trainer walking off the mound.

I'd like to see more of the following lineup:

Semien (2B-31)
Seager (SS-28)
Heim (C-27)
Lowe (1B-26)
Garcia (RF-29)
Taveras (CF-23)
Bubba Thompson (LF-24)
Duran (3B/DH-23)
Josh Smith (3B/DH-24)

Is Gray going to be one of those SPs that we only get 25GS+/- per season?!

Seems like he is constantly having something. Some guys are just like that. Be a good chance for a call-up mid-season.

Absolutely not.

A mediocre bat with no position.
Jimbo Franchione
Tksymm7

Foscue seems like he absolutely rakes, but many have him pegged as a pure 2nd baseman because he lacks defensive ability. I would be curious to know if he could DH and play the occasional 3rd and 2nd because it feels like his bat plays no matter what. If Gray misses anything more than a start or two I would be shocked if they didn't call up someone.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

You do know that Foscue is known for his bat and power for middle infield, right? I'm not saying he's the next Yordan Alvarez, but his bat plays. That's literally the only reason he's a top 100 prospect.

He's hitting 279 in AA with 6 HR in 258 ABs. I'd hardly call that "raking". Scouts that have seen him walk away scratching their heads as to why he's ranked so high. And his defense isn't even adequate, it's atrocious.

They don't give Semien that deal if they had any legitimate belief that Foscue was a middle IF answer.

Fair enough, all of this talk still makes me wonder though why some of these guys haven't or aren't getting traded. It's time for these level of guys to put up and help the major league roster or be traded for guys who will. Foscue in particular was a college guy and is 23 years old. Time is ticking.
