Probably 3 starters but no ace and 2 maybe. But most thought we were 2 good SP away from even contending to start the year.

Yep, historically frustrating, but much of that is from the 70s and 80s when they were a DOA relocated Washington franchise and struggling to find its way. Over the past 25 years, it's been respectable. Two down stretches in that time, one of which they appear to be ready to emerge from soon. This should be a good time to start following.

The Rangers had about a 10 year stretch of being considered one of the best teams in baseball, but then the front office decided to blow it up as they had some guys who were aging.

Concerning the Dunning comment, I think he's at best a 4-5. The rangers absolutely need to go out this offseason and sign another Jon Gray type, then hope your minor league talent can step up and give you a 4-5 level starter type of season while they mature and come into their own.

Dunning wiggles off the hook there. I like the guy's stuff. I think he's shown he's a viable MLB starter. Ace? No, but serviceable.

And we may have an ace or two in our farm system now. We'll see.

Yeah, if you bunt down the first base line you're almost guaranteed an automatic out, one way or another.

Ohtani reminds me of Vlad Guerrero - if the ball is within a foot of the plate, he can hit it.

There are typically 5 starters on a given team. The "1" is the ace, or best pitcher. You ideally set up your rotation best pitcher to worst.

We were all in on the 2019 top FAs the Rangers were rumored to be "in-on" that we finally learned there was no real intention.

The Rangers were very vocal about going after Rendon all the way up to the end. Then, supposedly offered Rendon 6yr/$200M ($33.3M AAV). He signed 7yr/$245M ($35M AAV). It was known they had a 7yr and the Rendon's agent later indicated that they never really spoke with the Rangers.

Look... don't tell me you are serious and then offer fewer years than was announced would be necessary... AND come in at a lower AAV. If you want 6 yr, your AAV MUST be higher than someone offering 7yrs. Essentially, that 7th year was worth over $45M.

Same thing with a SP... they came in at 3-4 yrs on a SP that got 6 yrs and more AAV. Forget who that was.

We'll find out the offer for Soto would make even me and others on here embarrassed.

They promoted how they were going to go up to $165M... they were going to spend money to content in Dec 2019... going into this new stadium. They didn't sign anyone. Came in with retreads at $140M, which was about what I said they'd end up doing.

We were not "in-on" Castillo. We allowed ourselves to be used as "another anonymous team." Same is likely with Soto. We'll find we offered less than even I would offer.

JD's Schtick is old and tiresome, but it got many fans on here excited about talking about "what could be."

I think it's more that you fall into the trap of wanting the GM to say something "just to say something", then getting upset when he does GM-speak.

You want them to "tell you they are serious about an offer" when there's zero upside negotiation-wise to tell the public they are serious (or not serious) about an offer. It's all GM-speak.

You demand it, then get mad when you get it.

If you haven't figured out by now JD is very calculating and is not going to show his cards, then you haven't been paying attention.

He's made a lot of bad moves (and a lot of good moves) as GM, but getting upset over what he says publicly about a negotiation is foolish.

Some of these at bats are brutal.

I had great hopes for Brock Burke as a starter but dang he sure is solid as a reliever.

Part of me wonders if they should try to move him to the rotation next season or keep him in his current role because he is obviously excellent in it.

Yeah I agree, it's time for him to takeover at third base until Jung is ready. Josh Smith has REALLY struggled over the last two+ weeks and I think he should go back down to AAA. Great to see Hernandez out there finishing the game. He has the most closer "stuff" on the team, just needs to get innings again.

Maybe so. I sure hope not.

Duran is probably more "5-tool" than Jung, but Jung's hit ability is darn near elite from what people say. Jung is also supposed to be a great defender. It's at least nice to have both!
