Nate Lowe is so close to being an all-star caliber first baseman. His defense has gotten really good, he just needs to strike out a little less and hit for more power!

Glenn Otto ain't it. He's to inconsistent pitch to pitch and his mistakes are always massive.

At least Rendon isn't looking to bail and is under contract for another four years at $38 million per, so they still have that going for them.
I remember being upset at the Rangers for not making a more aggressive push to get him when he left Washington, but I just looked up his stats since he got to LA and holy crap what a bullet we dodged. 20 home runs TOTAL over the last 3 seasons after hitting 34 his last year with the Nationals? Also didn't realize how many games he's missed due to injury.

Somebody help me out. Where did the rangers get Lowe from? For some reason I always assumed it was Nate Lowe and he just started going by his full name or something. Lol. Was Nathaniel a big prospect?

It is Nate Lowe he just goes by Nathaniel now

Technically his first name is David and he was on Tampa Bay before

Wow….don't think there's a bigger fail than walking a guy on 4 straight balls, with 2 outs…with Ohtani on deck

He was good in the covid year. Would have projected to 25-30 HR and nearly .300, which is what he was the previous 3 years. But yeah, he's been an oft injured clusterF the past 2. And you wonder if that will ever change now that he's getting further into his 30s. With teams having 7 years of control, these guys that finally hit UFA at 29-30 and get a crazy deal are a wild card. You might get 5-6 good years out of them. Or you might get 1

Can't see the games live so I normally track this thread and refresh the boxscore nightly. Last I checked was the end of the 3rd with the Angels up 3-2. Reading your comment just now, I expected the score to be at least 5-2 after a second Ohtani bomb. It just sounded so negative.

Then I check and we're up 7-4 and Semien had crushed a 3 run bomb. So if anyone does what I do…the game is going well.

Or maybe the score isn't truly indicative of how it's going.

Sorry…was just venting. Rangers were up 7-4…Angels batting….with 2 outs…and Leclerc walks the guy with 4 straight balls…which weren't even close…with Ohtani on deck. Just drives you crazy. Fortunately, Ohtani didn't do anything.

I get it; just seems like this thread has taken a turn in the last few weeks.

Maybe Leclerc was just having his Wild Thing moment…'I want Parkman'.

Lowe used to go by Nate.

Last year his mother/gma asked that he go by Nathaniel.

Dang. Four outs away from a 3-0 series lead now all of a sudden your looking down the barrel of a split with road-awful Dunning throwing tomorrow.

I think everyone knows why we as Rangers fans are a bit more sour recently; the lineup is close but the pitching staff is still incredibly far off. Good news is, it sounds like the front office understands they still need outside help. I had no clue the Rangers were in on Castillo in the slightest.

The differing offers make sense. Seattle was trading for 2 contending years with Castillo. Texas was trading for *maybe* 1.

The cynic in my views it differently because I've seen this game by JD, before.

JD goes to the High-Roller table with the vision that he is going to a Swap Meet.

We were all in on the 2019 top FAs the Rangers were rumored to be "in-on" that we finally learned there was no real intention.

The Rangers were very vocal about going after Rendon all the way up to the end. Then, supposedly offered Rendon 6yr/$200M ($33.3M AAV). He signed 7yr/$245M ($35M AAV). It was known they had a 7yr and the Rendon's agent later indicated that they never really spoke with the Rangers.

Look... don't tell me you are serious and then offer fewer years than was announced would be necessary... AND come in at a lower AAV. If you want 6 yr, your AAV MUST be higher than someone offering 7yrs. Essentially, that 7th year was worth over $45M.

Same thing with a SP... they came in at 3-4 yrs on a SP that got 6 yrs and more AAV. Forget who that was.

We'll find out the offer for Soto would make even me and others on here embarrassed.

They promoted how they were going to go up to $165M... they were going to spend money to content in Dec 2019... going into this new stadium. They didn't sign anyone. Came in with retreads at $140M, which was about what I said they'd end up doing.

We were not "in-on" Castillo. We allowed ourselves to be used as "another anonymous team." Same is likely with Soto. We'll find we offered less than even I would offer.

JD's Schtick is old and tiresome, but it got many fans on here excited about talking about "what could be."
I want to start off my post by saying I agree with you about JD's past negotiations. I think he historically was more interested in finding reclamation projects than signing top players.

I have to say, however, that I think your JD bias (completely warranted, btw) has effected your ability to be objective and fair regarding the current situation(s).

By way of example, the points you made, while accurate, conspicuously omit the signing of Seagar and Semien, which was a $550 million or so investment....so the ability/willingness to spend is there.

I have a couple of thoughts that are separate but related. First, I don't think the player personnel decisions are JD's anymore. I think these are CY decisions. The draft is what I would use as an example. Drafting Rocker took guts and vision, not something I think JD possesses much of. They signed the best college pitcher AND the best HS pitcher in the draft. That's all CY IMO.

Having said that, I think that CY (not JD) is handling the trade stuff. I think he made the best offer he felt the organization could responsibly make, in regards to trade capital (prospects, MLB players, etc.). It could be...IT COULD BE... that CY simply feels the asking price for Soto is too high given where this club currently is.

I've said all along that I wasn't in favor of trading for Soto, because one player (no matter how great he is) isn't going to lift this team to a championship level. There's 3 holes in the starting rotation (I'm not sold on Dunning unless it's as a 5th starter). The bullpen is incredibly suspect, and it lacks the big arms typical of effective modern bullpens. Unless Jung turns out to be what he's been hyped up to be, we don't have a 3rd baseman. I'm not entirely sold on Lowe at 1st, although he's have a decent year. I would argue that there are not one, but two, holes in the outfield. Tavares, who I'm a fan of, is killing it right now, but anybody not named Adolis Garcia is suspect - and even Garcia leaves some things to be desired as a player (strikes out too much, low average).

My criticism of JD, fwiw, is that I think he mishandled the draft for decades - mostly because of the type of player they insisted on targeting. Foscue is a perfect example. A bat with no position.

I really think if you'll avert your focus from being pissed at JD, and look at the positive impact(s) that CY has had on this organization in a relatively small time, you'll be encouraged at the direction things are headed.

Looked at the ESPN preview and saw this pretty ridiculous stat that has to be a typo

https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401355755

Record 45-55
Underdog 43-20

So are we 2-35 as favorites?

The voice of reason.

Seager and Semien signings were pretty solid.

The Dillon Tate and Matuella picks a few years ago were high-risk high-reward and I don't fault him for that. I think the Rocker pick and signing of the other guy were pretty risky. I won't fault them for big moves.

I continue to be underwhelmed by Dane Dunning. He's a 4/5 in your rotation, and probably would be a long reliever on a championship level team. I still think we have two legit starters and a bunch of "maybe they can give us a few decent innings" guys.

I just started watching baseball for the first time in my life when the Aggies were in the SEC tournament. Followed that up with an incredibly thrilling post season. My daughter of nearly 2 years started with wanting to watch "ball". The Aggie season being over I found I had the Bally channel showing all the ranger games. We've been watching the Rangers. I've really started enjoying watching baseball.

So let me ask this. Are the rangers a disappointing team to be a fan of? I can back out now

Historically disappointing, yes. They've been to the World Series a couple of times and lost both. Never even reached the playoffs until the mid 90s after moving to Texas from Washington in '72.

That said, they have the appearance of a team that is trending upward - lots of talent in the minor leagues. So in the next year or so, they SHOULD be a contending, playoff quality team.
