Garver and Smith activated. Huff and Reks sent to AAA, and Meibrys Viloria is brought up to be the backup catcher. White moved to the 60 day IL to free up a roster spot.

I'm guessing they want Huff to get more playing time at catcher than he's getting behind Heim. Smith will get some time in the OF I suspect, in addition to 3B/IF.

The guy we are getting back appears to be returning from the 60IL (Oblique) and while hitting a cool .204 in AAA... at least he can play CF.

The guy may be a bag of beans, but hey if he can play defense maybe he'll be useful to us someday. Willie never was.

He's just a minor league roster filler. 28 yr old, decent defender, so-so bat. Upgrade from Willie, because Willie couldn't play D and apparently forgot how to hit.

One of the greatest pitchers to ever don a Rangers uniform and he ultimately produces via trades a guy we give away for batting practice balls.

Baseball is a cruel, cruel sport.

I can think of a handful of former Rangers pitchers better than Darvish.

If you don't have at least 3 seasons as a SP, I'm not sure you are in the discussion - Blylevyn, Richert, and Ogando.

Think about this... if Martin Perez stays with Texas and gets 45 GS by the end of 2023, he'd be 6th All-Time in GS. He is 15th in IP. If he got 6 IP in each of those 45 GS, he could have 1,118 IP, and be 7th All-Time. He is 31.

In 2024, Martin Perez could be in the running for Top 5 All-Time.

I would rank all of those guys ahead of Darvish. I saw all of them pitch.
I didn't say Darvish sucked, or that he's a bad pitcher. And I suppose if you rank the top 10ish pitchers in Rangers history he's somewhere in there. I don't think he was as good as advertised.

And again, the original comment was that all the pitcher had to do was "don the Rangers uniform". If the comment had been "pitchers who dominated while with the Rangers", it's a different list.

Did you mis-read as "guys who pitched for a really long time with decent stuff that donned a Rangers uniform?"

Both of those guys are barely above league average ERA over the course of their careers.

Forgive me, I was young and not yet learned in the ways of the force when Kevin Brown pitched for the Rangers. I always had the impression he was good but not great as a Ranger and went absolutely elite after with the Marlins and Padres.

Guys like Hough, Kenny Rogers, Jeff Russell - good, but I thought Darvish was more dominating.

Tanana, the guy who early in his career (probably before your time) put together four brilliant seasons in a row, on some really awful Angels teams.

14-19, 3.12 ERA, 180 Ks
16-9, 2.62 ERA, league leading 269 Ks
19-10, 2.43, 261 Ks
15-9, 2.54 (led the league) 205 Ks

Charlie Hough who has 216 career wins and a 3.75 ERA, and won a lot of games on really crappy Rangers teams. Not to mention he was a guy who you always knew would go out and give you solid innings.

Darvish (again, he's a good pitcher, never said he wasn't) is 35 years old and has a career record of
86-70 with a 3.54 ERA. He's won over 10 games only 4 times in 10 MLB seasons. His career high in wins in a single season is 16, his first season with the Rangers. And since leaving Texas, he's been pretty much a .500 pitcher.

As for Kevin Brown, I think you're forgetting his '92 season with the Rangers when he went 21-11 on a team that went 77-85.

I didn't even mention Jon Matlack, who was dominating before getting injured and went 15-13 with a 2.27 ERA in 78 with the Rangers, and despite falling off after getting hurt still finished his career with a 3.18 ERA

Speaking of Darvish, maybe the Rangers can find a way to pair "baby" Darvish with "baby" Beltre one day...
