He's definitely serviceable, especially for what they gave up. That said, I'm never going to be super wild about a 750 OPS guy at an offensive position like 1B. But what he's doing is a lot better than what we've seen at 1st for a long time, so I'll take it

Yes, Duran has yet to have pitchers adjust to him. They'll start to figure out what he doesn't like. But so far - just damn.

He's made a handful of those plays that Semien made last night. He's booted a couple the last week that might have tarnished your opinion of him, but his defense has been really good. He's 6th among shortstops in UZR.

He already has 9 errors (one away from the lead league as a shortstop), ranks 36th in the league in DWAR and 20th in fielding %. He's not the worst SS but he's hardly been "nails" defensively and quite frankly needs to be better for the amount of money The Rangers are paying him.

He's almost guaranteed to give up around 5 runs every time he pitches. Dude just ain't got it.

For the life of me I don't understand why they don't move Hearn to the BP and start Burke. I realize he would likely be on a pitch count similar to Dunning last season, but he has pitched multiple innings and would most likely be good for 5 or 6 solid. Besides, Hearn rarely lasts more than 5 anyway.

I don't get the organizational love for Spencer Howard. I get that he was a highly regarded prospect (key word there is "was"), but he's been really really unimpressive for the last couple of seasons.

Best available option I guess, but I'm not expecting any improvement over Hearn.

Ironically, if Howard starts Tuesday, he'd be facing Gibson.

We need to keep reminding ourselves that a big part of this season is finding out which young starting pitchers are part of our future.

Taylor Hearn is playing himself out of the organization. Spencer Howard is the next guy we need to figure out whether to keep around. Kolby Allard - we're looking at you too.

A.J. Alexy has been bad at AAA. Might be playing himself out of the organization at that level.

I'd take a flyer on Ragans too - is was really good at AA and has played one game at AAA and done well.

Jack Leiter, Cole Winn, Owen White - all only 22 years old. They can wait.

Been out on vacation for a little over a week. what'd I miss?

I borderline hate my baseball franchise given what they've done to us over the past 50 yeasr, but we're actually hanging in there better than I thought we would. Outside of series with the Mets and Twins we play a slew of bad baseball teams over the next month. If the core pieces of this team have any real hope for this season and going forward, there is no reason we can't go 14-10 and finish at .500 going into the break.

Time for the Rangers to get going. I just want to see them taking series wins and fighting every game!
