That is kind of his thing, right?

He's pitched in 7 WS games. He's 0-6, the team is 1-6. In this case, I don't know if he does poorly, I just think Wheeler is a mutha ****er.

His WS record is not good. In fact, his playoff record as a whole has not been good. Aside from that ALCS in 2017 its not been very memorable.

One of those is wrong. The fast ball and breaking ball have the same numbers for playoffs

He pitched decent in 2017 in the world series. Pretty sure it was 3 earned both starts. He just didn't get anything more than 1 run of support in either start. In 2019, he was bad, but I kinda wonder whether he was already dealing with arm problems at that point.

Adding to this. Philly is top 5 in swinging at pitches outside the zone and middle of the pack swing and miss. Both are much worse than us. While not a glaring weakness, they should be more susceptible to the breaking ball out of the zone.

I think the fact that JV has been pitching on regular rest all season is gonna pay dividends. He's healthy and he's nasty when he's on, which he has been more often the not this season.

Player A takes a good route, has a good jump, but it hits off the glove. Player A is penalized with an error.

Player B is slow, takes a **** route, and doesn't get close to making a play. Player B isn't penalized with an error.

This happens 10 more times over the season.

Who's the better defended, the guy who made 10 errors or the guy who made 0?

The official scorer can rule the play didn't take a routine effort and it would not be an error. I do agree that the official scorer can definitely make some questionable decisions at times.

Your question has nothing to do with my issue with errors.

It's a judgment call. Good defenders get knocked all the time and bad defenders scrap by. Statcast shows us how players move, who gets to balls, who doesn't etc. We also are able to measure a player's arm strength with each throw. It'll keep advancing and we'll be able to grade players 100x better than fielding %.

I just get annoyed with how some of these stats get used. In the original scenario about the Altuve triple or not, if there is an error then Altuve didn't do anything special. They decide there isn't an error and Altuve just did something amazing when in reality he did the same thing and the result was the same.

errors are not dumb. thinking errors are the be all end all of how to judge a fielder is dumb. so some fans are wrong. big deal.
