I'm sure the Stros thought about asking Will Smith to come throw a bullpen session to make the ALDS roster as the Yankees did with Chapman, but were concerned he might actually have shown up

Yeah I think you leave Smith and Maton off so Dusty doesn't think it's mid-June and put them in.

Eating some crow here too since I had said earlier there was no way they'd be leaving Maton off.
Maton was used almost every time Dusty needed an arm out of the pen. That had to be a Click decision
We have 6 really good bullpen arms between Pressly, Montero, Stanek, Neris, Abreu, & Brown. Most likely we're not going to need the 7th and 8th arm out of the pen.Mathguy64 said:

A bit surprised but I think Click took over and just said, I am putting the 12 best pitchers on the roster, period. 7 "Starters" and 5 relievers, but 3 of the starters have had significant relief appearances during the season to make up for it. Love the decision and I didn't think they would actually leave both Maton and Smith off.
That being said, expect this to change to 13/13 for the ALCS if we make it that far. Probably brings Maton back into the fold.

The beauty of the way the pitching is constructed for this series is if the starter can only go 5, you can get 2 out of Urquidy to get to the back end.agproducer said:

This is where Dusty will use his guys. During the regular season, he was putting guys in doors to see how they would respond. That's why we are seeing Hensley on the roster and not JJ. In addition, he's been seeing which LF would be best overall. That is Yordan.
