Since it was 30 years ago, it also bears noting that Bellaire was cheating their asses off to get players. Cruz lived in Pearland but came to Bellaire as a transfer student because he "wanted to learn French".

Another good player from that team lived across the street from Westbury HS, but his parents rented a $200/month apartment that was zoned to BHS so he could play there.

Stupid MLB playoff scheduling. Day games and a day off between games 1 and 2. No idea why the sport is on the decline in the US and Manfred continues to make gimmicky changes to a game that's been around for 150 years

I always heard Russian as the language option that could get you to Bellaire back in the late 90s. We knew it was all bogus anyway. Same as Wardell Starling (LLWS hero) playing for Spring HS and then his dad "got a new job" in Missouri City and he shows up at Elkins the week before school starts.

I don't think there is a huge gap between any of the remaining AL opponents. The issue is it's only a game 5 series. The shorter the series, the more likely of "anything can happen".

If my memory serves correctly, Kevin Brown struck out 87 batters in 2 games and had an ERA of -7.00 during the 98 NLDS.

Brown threw 119 pitches (!) in Game 1 and then pitched on 4 days rest and threw another 100 in Game 4. I don't see that happening in a series in this era.

Worth noting though, that there was a day off between Games 1 and 2 that probably allowed Brown to go in Game 4, much like this years division series.

I actually don't mind the day games too much. Yeah, I can't watch when we're playing during the day, but that's why I have MLB radio. Doesn't seem to hurt attendance too much.

Also - I'm glad the post season doesn't drag out 2 months like NBA.

Looks like every other team has released their roster. Just waiting on ours.

I don't know why they are not staggering the NLDS and ALDS from the start but the reason for the day off is for TV. They don't want back to back days of four games and then a day of no games.

Strange how no enterprising journalist has inquired if MLB sent more 'private letters' to the Yankees, or perhaps other clubs.

Can't wait until Manfred makes the following rules changes.
