Here is how we stack up vs the rest of the league statically.

A few thoughts:
  • Offense was good, not elite
  • Pitching was elite and stayed elite
  • Top NL teams down the stretch was very good offensively.
  • TOR & HOU were easily the best AL offenses down the stretch
  • Yankees #s are heavily reliant on the early part of the season
  • DRS overrates the NY defense which in turn overrated their WAR.
  • I trust statcast (OAA & Runs Prevented) over eye test defensive stats
  • I think people (myself included) are sleeping on STL.
  • The Dodgers are the most complete team by far.
  • The NL is stacked

So with no baseball on last night I finally got around to watching Facing Nolan on Netflix.

What a well done documentary! Can't recommend it enough. Great watch

Ryan - baseball's about 3 things: pitching, pitching and more pitching

Berra - Baseball is 90% pitching. Hitting and fielding are the other 50%.

The braves were 14th in pitcher's WAR last season. 8th in ERA, 10th in FIP, 12th in xFIP, and 12th in K%-BB%. Once they got there, they pitched well.

He hasn't been great with runners on. But his opportunities haven't exactly been way down. Pre Brantley's injury he had 147 PA in 63 games. He was just more successful then.

Chandler seems to be inferring Brantley has something to do with it. I'm not really seeing how.

He's an idiot. More likely has to do with Yordan's major slump after fouling it off his leg and with teams pitching around him with runners on.

That seems to be a pretty common thought. Last week someone posted odds for winning the WS that showed Atlanta with better odds than LA. But why is that? The Dodgers finished with a better record by 10 games and beat the Braves in their season series by 4 games to 2.

Should we really be hoping the Astros face LA over Atlanta in the Series? That's not how I'm feeling now.

I think it's how the bracket is set up. LA has to potentially go through the Mets to get to the NLCS while the Braves have to go through Philly/St. Louis. If the Mets lose or once LA gets to the NLCS, the odds will adjust in LA's favor.

edit: or maybe not, FanGraphs actually has LA at a 49.4% chance to win the NLDS which I have to think means their ratings have them as underdogs to the Mets.
