Martinez routinely goes more than 1 IP. Multiple times he's gone more than 2. He threw an easy 12 pitches in the 7th last night in a 5-1 game. Taking the 8th was a No brainer. Instead Dusty wiped out Maton, Stanek and Neris making them 100% unavailable. And it forced him to use Parker Mushinski in a 3-1 game in the 8th. Yes Parker got out of it on 4 pitches. But that doesn't excuse the dumbass move last night.

To top it off when he was asked about it last night he trotted out that lame excuse that he was saving Martinez for today. And where was he? Not pitching in favor of Parker.

He got away with it. That didn't make it right.

And the starter is not always going to go 7, and the worst pitcher in the bullpen is not always going to have a four pitch inning. Matter of fact, typically neither of those is going to be the case.

I think you can enjoy another great JV performance and enjoy this great season so far and the golden era we are in while still acknowledging that Dusty sucks and his mismanagement of the bullpen is going to cost us.

Dusty Baker said Jakes Meyers is OK after being hit on the left elbow and will be out of the lineup tomorrow, which was going to happen anyway. His left arm is his throwing arm.

And how many times has Martinez gone 2+ innings in a meaningful game? I like Seth and he's been great in just about all of the games he's pitched in, but to just say "he goes out a second ( any maybe third? ) inning and everything is perfect" is ridiculous, It's a fantasy, Maybe he only gets one out in the eighth as well and the exact same situation occurs. You really have no idea.

Also, who is pitching the ninth in your fantasy? Because wouldn't Stanek or Neris be wiped out anyway? You don't get to keep both for today, even in your fantasy.

The truth is is that it was MATON that wiped out Stanek. He failed at his job. I wish we could say never pitch Maton again, but he's on the roster and will be used ( and overused ).

The OBVIOUS issue is that we had a double-header Thursday where both starting pitchers only went 5 innings, a pitcher had to pitch in both of them ( Montero ) and another was on paternity leave. That's going to leave the bullpen EXTREMELY thin for these last two games and absolutely none of those things was Dusty's fault.

But you want to stand on the table and scream like a child for 24 hours because Dusty used his bullpen differently than you would ( and Maton failed )

Ok, you do you. Just keep posting the Dusty-hate and getting your 10 likes.

I'll just sit back and enjoy the two wins and be happy.

( For the record, I would have thrown Martinez out for the eighth as well. I just understand that there is more than one way to manage a game or SERIES of games AND I can't simply say Martinez would have gotten through the 8th cleanly. Impossible to know )

My word, I've never agreed more with anything you've ever said.

I've never seen Dusty make any boneheaded moves in the playoffs where it truly counts.

You gotta use all your guys through the regular reason. We're a few games shy from the number 1 record in baseball. I'm going to cut him some slack and not overreact to anything that may seem head scratching on the surface over a few regular season games.
