Throw to 3rd (not over his head), guy on 3rd runs down the runner between 2nd and 3rd knowing he may have to throw to home if the guy on 3rd goes for it?
Making a good throw to home...
Running the runner back, any throw there possibly allows third base to advance so you just run them all back and live to play again

Blood is in the water. Somebody needs to remind them that the division (and league) still runs through Houston.
This is an MLB team. When the opposing team makes that bad of a baserunning mistake, they need to be able to get an out there without the run scoring. These are basic throws that MLB players have to be able to trust themselves to makeLonestar_Ag09 said:
With two outs yes, but it was only 1 out.
So I run them all back and live to fight another day....that play alone shows you a run down and throw home has a high probability of not working and being a bad throw so not worth the risk
Agree with this. Pitcher is covering home and you have an infielder already at second with a bad baserunner stuck between third and second. Run at third to force the runner to the bag and then make the throw to second to tag that runner. I doubt the runner at third would risk the tying run being thrown out at home trying to score, but if he did you should have plenty of time to beat him home with a throw from second base.AggieJ2002 said:This is an MLB team. And to me, 1 out means you are more aggressive to get that out. If you have a great chance to get the 2nd out instead of leaving the tying run on 3rd with 1 out, you take it.
I know the Astros aren't well-liked, in general. But this feels like people are just hoping for something new. They're tired of the Astros consistently owning this division.f1ghtintexasaggie said:.@JeffPassan on @SeattleSports

And yet these very same Major leaguers just had a trash throw to home followed by a t balers attempt to throw to third base...AggieJ2002 said:This is an MLB team. A pitcher covering the plate...enough said. And a RP or closer who I guarantee practice scenarios the least.Red Five said:Agree with this. Benches are clearing here at Busch Stadium, and there is some real intent. Both bullpens rushing in after Yoan López throws high and tight to Nolan Arenado. Things are still getting sorted out on the field.

My worst case scenario in going at the stranded runner is he retreats slowly to second, drawing the catcher further out, at which point the runner on third who im sure is slowly extending off the bag breaks for home....now leaving your catcher to pivot, make an accurate throw to the closer covering home who now has to actually catch the ball but also make a tag play on a sliding runner.YellAg2004 said:
I just remember my dad teaching me in LL that the worst thing that should happen for the defense in a run-down scenario is that the runners end up back where they came from. Anything worse than that and you chose poorly and/or executed wrong on defense. Knowing the situation and what is on the line is paramount. I do think running at the guy hung up between 2nd and 3rd is the right play other than just eating the ball and letting everyone return. Make him commit to either trying to get back to 2nd or gifting you an out by stopping cold or going to third where you can tag whichever runner doesn't have the right to the bag.
Firing to either 2nd or 3rd from home is just asking for bad things to happen, plus it gets the runners more time to react since the throws are so much longer. Close the distance on foot and force them to make a decision.
The bullpen pitchers running in is the funniest. Hey guys, let's all run across the field so hopefully we can get there just in time to be pulled apart and have to come back to the bullpen.htxag09 said:

lol. Baseball bench clearing "brawls" are the lamest thing in sports. Lets all huddle in a big circle, chest bump each other, talk about kicking each others asses, then wait for someone to pull us apart.

Yeah, that's what was so funny to me. The "real intent" was two people wrestling each other to the ground like I did with my brother when I was 7.Ag_07 said:
You're not wrong but they did actually go to the ground here.
That's way more than what typically happens.
