Bad luck for Castro, then just had a rough last swing to K. Need to find a way to push another across after first and third with no outs.

Have to protect with two strikes… but that wasn't a strike.
Protecting with two strikes is just about taking it out of a ****ty ump's hands on borderline pitches and fouling them off. Until robo umps are here, it's a valid approach.htxag09 said:Buck Compton said:

I think protecting with two strikes is as dumb and over plaid a saying as tie goes to the runner. If it's a ball, it's a ball, regardless of how many strikes he has. This isn't little league where the batter is basically guessing. These guys generally know the strike zone.
Here’s a look at most recent information on how teams are affected by umpire performance:

Astros are worst in the total favor. Want to know who gets the best/most umpire favor?
You guessed it: Yankees and Dodgers

Tie goes to the runner is just a saying and rule simplification that never existed.
You don't protect to get a hit. You protect to avoid getting rung up on a ball that's close, attempting to foul it off and extend the AB for a better pitch. Some guys have good enough bat control to do it. Remember David f-ing Eckstein?htxag09 said:Buck Compton said:Protecting with two strikes is just about taking it out of a ****ty ump's hands on borderline pitches and fouling them off. That sounds great in theory. But these guys are facing major league pitchers. It's hard enough to get a hit if you're swinging at strikes. Multitudes harder if you're expanding the zone. So I disagree. If it's a ball, take it, more likely to have the ump call it a ball then getting a hit on a ball you're chasing.
