i missed the replay on Framber, how bad was it?
I don't think anyone said it was easy. No batters are perfect and will take strikes they think are balls and will think some balls are so far outside it's an easy take. However, as you say, these guys are pros. Not only do they know the zone, they know which umps are going to ring them up on a ball outside the zone. Especially pitches that are close. No one is saying to chase pitches that exactly zero umps would call strikes. On close pitches, the choice is try to make contact to extend the AB, or risk walking back to the dugout mad at a blown call.htxag09 said:
So it's easy, huh? I still stand by my point. Angel Hernandez, who is terrible, was 88% accurate even in his last shifty game, which was bad even for him. So you have a 12% chance he'll call a ball a strike. Mlb average is 94% accuracy.
I agree with everything you're saying for college baseball and lower. But these guys know the strike zone. If they see it out of the hand and think it's a ball, they shouldn't swing. If they think it's a strike but a good, tough pitch, they'll try to fight it off.
This is the highest level of baseball in the country. These umpires are supposed to be the best in the country. You don't get a pat on the head a "nice try" for showing up. He should be better or GTFOredline248 said:I don't think anyone said it was easy. It's not an exact science, and we all know that
OK, but that's like a whole different discussion. Blown calls exist and are apparently accepted as part of the game. Until that changes, as a player, I don't want my fate in a critical AB in the ump's handsEastCoastAgNc said:This is the highest level of baseball in the country. It technically never hit his glove. I think it went straight to his knee.redline248 said:
