Let's Predict Jeremy Pena's #s for 2022.
MLB 2022
Games:
HR:
AVG:
OBP:
SLG:
OPS:
Those averages feel about right to me for Pena. I see a pretty wide range of outcomes tbh.
I think his upside case is ROY. There's a reason we were willing to let Correa walk without much thought and gift wrap him the job. He's a plus defensive short stop with power. Not a whole lot of short stops "look" like him. I could see .800 OPS with 15-20 HR if things go well.
But there's obviously risk. While his AAA/LIDOM stats are promising, we don't have a great extended sample of him the past couple years. I could see him getting off to a rough start and spend the latter part of next year in Sugar Land working on stuff. Bregman and Tucker both needed time to adjust to the show. Possible Pena will need that too.
My base case is that he gets off to a good start like Meyers last year, goes through a little slump as opposing pitchers figure him out, but then get things figured out and finish 2022 with .725 OPS and 10 HRs and display alot of promise heading into 2023.
