MLB is the bastion of selective outrage and turning a blind eye to shenanigans, not to mention, yes, league favoritism for certain franchises.

Still love the 'the ball wasn't juiced' company line from a few seasons back.

Astros were a prime target to wear the scarlet A as the only franchise involved in any nefarious activities given that they are not a core MLB property and are firmly ensconced in flyover country.

Now we can all be rest assured that the game has been 'cleaned up' and the playoff games you see are all played on the up and up.

The coastal centric nature of sports media seems foolish given that demographic growth continues to be elsewhere. I guess the idea is that people keep and pass down their sports team loyalties no matter where they live. Still, if you had a sports outlet that just reported on sports in a straight manner I bet it would do well.

the thing I most remember is how Boston sports media went to DEFCON 1 and Houston sports media was happy to join the pile on

i guess they (Boston media) had experience enough with spygate deflategate to know what has to be done to protect the local brands

I'm not sure what people are freaking out over on tipping pitches. Every team has tons of video for pitch by pitch statistical breakdown. They can do AI analysis on pitch and count plus biomechanics of glove height, glove width, chin positions. Even if the pitcher breathes heavy on certain pitches. The better your video statistical analysis the better you are at identifying the markers and the better the hitter gets. We had at one point the cutting edge group behind the scenes. It looks now like Boston's group has found some tells. It's up to us to analyze our own pitchers and see what we find about ourselves.

Its no different than the large coastal cities believing that everyone thinks like them. In Cali and NY there is a huge difference between the few big cities and the rest of the state.

One of the things that entertain me is that everyone says Houston is a small market. They may not be Boston or NY but their fan base is a lot bigger than anyone gives them credit for. Even after the scandal I think the base grew. A LA/Houston WS would draw just as much if not a bigger watching than Boston/LA.

For everyone pointing out stats for the Red Sox . Boston was 3rd to last in all of mlb with a chase percentage of 30.2%. Mlb average was 27.7%. I'm on the phone and can't find postseason advanced metrics. But seems like it's closer to 10% than 30%. And sure, we've wasted a lot of pitches, but let's not act like that's not normal in the regular season. Let's also not act like they haven't laid of breaking balls that are an inch or two down.

Heck that 30% chase percentage may very well be why we're wasting pitches. Cause they chased those throughout the year.

Any Boston sports fans referring to another team as 'cheaters' really lives in a privileged glass house.

Unless you have a rat or irrefutable proof no media outlet is going to dare run a story about a team cheating. It took a true rat like Fiers to get that wall of silence to break.

The Red Sox's sudden prolific offense, in certain situations, makes no sense. The stats bear it out, but trust your lying eyes, tbh.

Region + diaspora. Same deal for St. Louis. Some teams just have large fanbases dating back to their history. The Cardinals were the de facto team of the South for a generation or two until the Braves relocated.

The question will be if we have indeed changed or got rid of the tells, about about changing the signs pretty often? If the BoSox have a way to steal the signs, i.e. 2018 again, we need to be constantly changing the signs.

It seemed like after we did that last night the Sox couldn't hit a thing.

Indeed. Also interesting that certain Red Sox hitters didn't even come close compared to earlier games.

Whatever the Sox were doing, legal or not, it seemed to be focused on starters and/or early in games.

So my guess on Meyers is he told everyone what they wanted to hear because he wanted to be on the roster. He didn't want to sit out.

By all accounts he was ready and Dusty put him in yesterday. Then I'm guessing someone outed him to Dusty. Maybe Correa or Maldy or someone who found out he's wasn't as healthy as he lead on and so he was a late scratch.

If they now have all the info and know he isn't healthy they should remove him from the roster and replace him.

We actually just surpassed them in tv market size, which is what matters most where pro sports are concerned. We should be passing D.C. and San Fran in the next few years and probably be at #6 for a long time.

Another factor though is merchandise revenue, and I think the Red Sox still sell quite a bit more nationwide than the Astros. Think they also draw more ticket revenue.
