So, IF we handle the Sox today, do we like going against the BoSox better than Tampa? I'd love nothing more than to get revenge for the 2018 ALCS.
Give me homefield advantage every time.

Rodon's avg fastball on July 18 - 97.0 MPH and his last start - 90.9 MPH.

Add in the fact he throws it a ton (58% on the season, more in the 2nd half) and we hit the heater well, I think we can run him off early today.

Hopefully they bring Lynn in after Rodon.

Think it's probably just pitchers adjusting to learn to throw without it or they've learned to use legal substances.

I find it hard to believe these guys are getting checked constantly but umps are either not seeing it or turning the other cheek.

It's probably something new. Something less sticky but legal enough.

I was thinking there has to be a few places to hide the stuff that the umps aren't checking. I also remember Blummer talking about how he had played with some sticky stuff on his glove or something that his pitchers always appreciated. Maybe they just moved it to the catcher or something.

That's why all these pitchers have long hair now. A quick brush back of the mane and you get plenty of tack from your hair product.

Have you seen how they're checking now? It's a joke and only for show with most umps. Finished in less than 5 seconds with both hat and glove.

Are pitches tracked in the post season like on Baseball Savant? I was curious the other day and checked the site but it looks to have stopped tracking at the end of the regular season.

If you feel like doing the grunt work, the statcast page for each game will give the spin for every single pitch.

This is going to sound a little ridiculous, but I know one of the guys who helps police this for the MLB (not for the Astros, though)

He found sticky stuff a few weeks ago on the inside of the catcher's shin guards. He told me who the pitcher was, but I'm not going to potentially out him.

They are tracked within the game trackers. Just not a database to search, I guess.

Can you say if it was somebody whose team is still in contention? I thought umpires had the right to check and eject position players too if they suspected anything.

I was all geared up to fake work yesterday and the rain out really threw me off. I mean I was able to do it, but it was a struggle. Hopefully I have enough gas in the tank today to fake work again, giving just enough room at my work station to give the semblance of something job-related being done.

No, it was not on a team still in the playoffs.

For those that follow such things, Astros are now a -107 favorite. (Opened at +108)

I'm just ready to get this started. I don't like sitting around waiting.

Man, I really hope we can win today.

Thanks. I would think most teams would try to avoid things like that in the playoffs given the potential risk of suspension and losing a key player is too high. I guess we'll never know until someone gets caught.
Coby

That's interesting. I've often though about position players providing a bit of extra tack during mound visits. Is the idea with the catcher that he's tacking the ball before he throws it back?
