I would imagine they will go with what they did a few times in the last month: start Maldonado and pinch hit for him (Diaz/Meyers/Marwin/Castro) later in the game with runners on; then Castro gets the catching duty the rest of the game.Deluxe said:
I understand the preferred pitcher/catcher dynamics and that's certainly worth something. But the fact that Castro's OPS+ (118) is more than double Maldy's (58) should factor into the decision too IMO.
Agree that Maldy will likely get the start today. Just wonder how deeply Dusty and the organization are considering more full time PT for Castro.

I would have left Maton off and gone with Odo, and I think that will hurt. Chicago knows both of them, but Odo is good through 3 innings, Maton is bad through 1.redline248 said:3 catchers and no OddoriziYNWA_AG said:Our ALDS roster is set.#ForTheH pic.twitter.com/vhxMFRU8uk

I hope Maton is nothing more than a guy who gets called in when a game is a sure loss and you just need to eat innings.
How bad do you have to be that the Astros would rather go with a guy with no MLB experience (Jeremy Pena) over Robel Garcia as a potential replacement on the roster?EastCoastAgNc said:#Astros taxi squad for the ALDS: pic.twitter.com/2gYiqtTdPb

Dusty Baker on Jake Odorizzi left off the ALDS roster: “It was a real difficult decision.U expect a guy not to take it well.We had to weigh a couple of guys versus a couple others. We told our guys to stay ready. Things can change. It’s a part of the process that’s not enjoyable”

Dusty Baker on MLB going back to standard rules for extra innings. No longer starting with a guy on 2nd base: “Wish they had done it next year because we had gotten used to a guy on 2nd base. It could put a lot more pressure on your bullpen. We haven’t done this in a couple years”
