Bad stat home run hitters like Gallo and Chris Carter make hay against bad pitching. Good pitching will give them hell. So the playoffs is not where guys like that are gonna do any good. Pinch-hitting, maybe.

That's one of those unsubstantiated baseball old wives tales. Most hitters make hay in general against bad pitching and good pitchers give most hitters hell, in general. It seems like our vaunted "lineup of death" struggled the most against garbage pitching so if what you're saying were true we could really use a guy that makes bad pitchers look bad.

Siri doesn't belong on the playoff roster. No way would I trust him in the field in a big playoff game, and the bat isn't consistent enough to demand that he be in there.

On another note, I think MLB needs to consider reseeding after the wild-card round. I don't feel bad for the Dodgers in the Wild Card because they had the chances to take care of the Giants in the regular season, and I like that winning the division has a lot of meaning to it.

The Giants did everything they can do in that they took care of business in their division and finished with the best record in MLB. They should not be punished by having to play a 5 game series against a team that had the 2nd most wins in baseball.

FWIW ESPN has

NLDS winner as 19 dodger picks 16 giants picks

NLCS winner as 14 dodger picks 13 giants picks

Best place to ask. Bought a bucket of balls from a neighbor during a garage sale for training with my kid. Found this in there. Anyone know who's signature this is? TIA

Dodgers made it official. Kershaw won't pitch in the playoffs.

So they are paying for $100MM worth of pitching in Scherzer, Kershaw and Bauer and 2/3 of them are MIA. That's a WS winning set of starters. And one is broke and the other in the Tiger Woods wing of the Betty Ford Clinic.

I don't doubt he does a lot of preparation, and he's pretty solid behind the plate. .172 for a season is just unacceptable.

That's a low bar.

For me the benefit he brings behind the plate and with the staff is worth the difference in .175 and .200.

Looks like it starts with a D and maybe an S and J for the last name?

I can't think of anyone. If you have time to kill the baseball almanac site has past rosters by year and most players profiles when you click on them have baseball cards with their signatures.

I would guess it was signed between 03 and 12.

It also could be a staff member or something and not even a player. Hell it almost looks like it starts with Dr.

The catcher position hit .228 with an OPS of .695 - Maldonado hit .172 with an OPS of .573.

He's a good defender, but 56 points of BA and 122 of OPS is a huge amount. As far as I can tell, he's the 2nd worst hitting catcher in baseball this season behind Austin Hedges and there is a significant gap between them and the middle of the pack (.730ish OPS)

The average SS hits .257 and has a .729 OPS. Would you be OK with a SS that hit .201 and had a .607 OPS? How good of a fielder would he have to be to make that OK?

Just for perspective the worst hitting season Adam Everett ever had as a regular was .239 with a .642 OPS...and he had a 4.1 defensive WAR that year which led baseball and was the 15th best defensive WAR of all time, so basically the best defender in baseball that year.

Quote:

"You know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It's 25 hits. Twenty-five hits in 500 at-bats is 50 points, OK? There's six months in a season. That's about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week, just one, a gork, a ground ball a ground ball with eyes! you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week and you're in Yankee Stadium.
On the flip side of that coin for Maldy is that if he was hitting the .225 everyone wants vs the .175 that he is... its really not contributing that much more. Just one more gork a week. And in his case with fewer than 500 ABs its really less than that. Like 2 gorks every 3 weeks

Harry is on fire. This is it.

Speaking of catcher, when is the last time our system felted stocked?

Korey Lee (A+, AA, AAA): .277, .340, .438, & .777
Luke Berryhill (A, A+, AA): .295, .413, .561, & .974
Yainer Diaz (A, A+): .324, .362, .527, & .889 (from Myles Straw trade)

I really don't get them starting Lynn over giolito. I haven't paid attention but maybe Lynn has been better the entire year but giolito has been great against Houston.
