I find it hard to believe Luhnow passed on the idea due to clubhouse perception.

He seemed like the guy that ran things by the numbers and if the numbers dictated a move then so be it.

He loved his quantitative data, but he was one of the pioneers of using qualitative data in conjunction with it. It explained it fairly well in Astroball.

I can see that stats say he moves laterally poorly. He attempts and misses lots of balls to his left and when doing so struggles with the throw mechanically at times.

Only a risk if he isn't comfortable playing somewhere else next year.

The real question is whose overall calculation of value is most accurate? If you take rWAR they are close. If you take fWAR or WARP (26 vs 16 for Correa) Lindor is vastly superior. The differences are primarily in what each calculation uses for running and defense. Given how much we shift, I could see defense being difficult to calculate for Carlos and some metrics may under calculate his performance (such as his range compared to other SS based on being in a traditional SS location).

Between the injuries and the discrepancies of the calculations above, I can see how this is just a challenging situation. It's a scenario where letting the market set the value makes sense, at least for Carlos. For the Astros, I don't think they can let another star walk away. Well, they can, you just have to question when you've been chipped away at so much that you're no longer a realistic competitor.

I feel like there are 2 things Lindor has better than Carlos.

1. Stay on the field (see the advantage in WAR)
2. Is more consistent. Higher lows and lower highs. This isn't always a good thing. Correa has more standard divination in his results.

Biggio was a subpar CF at age 37 when he started playing CF. It's rare enough for a guy who has played center his whole career to still be there when he's 37.

He would have been solid at the very least if he had switched over earlier in his career when he could still move.
