Question regarding recent draft picks... what will they do this year with no minor leagues? I know there was speculation that the Vandy pitcher could move quickly through the system... but there's no system right now.

Put them on the 60 man and have them train at UH. I'm not sure there is much else in the works.

This looks pretty good. You left out Pruitt. I think he'll be on for sure. Blake Taylor could make it as well. Super Jack could find his way in the mix. Maybe future slugger Taylor Jones. We have a lot of options that is for sure. Guys like Diaz, Straw, Bregman, Gurriel, Tucker, & Springer make it easier to have more pitching since they can all play multiple positions.

He'll be on the 60 man. We'll see how he does in the mini spring training. maybe he'll show enough to be the 5th starter. Things are going to be weird and very fluid this year.

Who are you taking off to put any of those on? We only have 30 for two weeks, then we drop to 28 and then down to 26.

The interesting part will be the 6 extra travel guys, what do they get paid, how does any of this play into their start time or towards being a rookie

Bums me out to not see a Harris on that staff. One of my favorite players of the last 5 years.

I guess I hadn't read that detail yet. So many proposed rules and actual rules it gets confusing.

Right now we don't have a #5. We have options between James, Peacock, Abreau, Pruitt, and Whitley. He could win the job. Unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibilities. 60 is short but it doesn't mean we won't see injuries.

I forget that Bregman's contract is heavily backloaded.

while he counts as $20 MM toward the luxury tax in 2020, 2021, and 2022; his 1st and the 15th paydays in those 3 years is only $11 MM.

for the last 2 years...his pay jumps to $28 MM.

Yep. The Bregman deal will pay big dividends in the coming years. I think he'd be worth $35-40 million per year in the open market right now and we'll have him on the books for $20.

Except we won't find anyone near as good as Brantley for 16M. He's severely underpaid. Jeff knee what he was doing.

Also don't forget Brantley had some serious injury concerns and was able to be had on the cheap.

So while he is underpaid I saw his deal as a sort of prove it deal and he has.

the market is likely to be quite depressed this upcoming offseason

it's possible...that the 2-year veteran deal would be offered to Brantley.

however he would be 34 & 35 years old in 2021 & 2022. Would probably need more time at DH.

but there may not be another really good free agent hitter available

Betts, Springer, LeMahuei, Brantley, Realmuto, Semien, Pederson, Didi, Osuna, Turner, & Cruz. Those are the top bats in 2021.

Really hope we can hang onto Brantley. Last night I was watching ALCS G2 replay and it was comical how easy it was for our late inning specialists like Smith just mow down the Yankees right-handed lineup. They have no lefty threats. It's even more important now that there's a 3 batter minimum for relievers. With Yordan already in the fold and TED on his way to his first MVP this year, retaining Brantley guarantees 3 lefty bats to fear and helps spread out our elite righties.
