so the 60-game season may mark the return of the importance of the "counting numbers" for hitters as opposed to the slash lines....which will be wildly skewed for 2020.

the equivalent of a 30 HR & 100 RBI/runs scored season in 2020 will be: 11 to 12 homers and 37 RBI/runs.

last year 56 players reached the 30-HR plateau

I bet we see someone hitting .400 over a 60 game season.

From ESPN:

Schoenfield: Since 2000, only one player has hit .400 over the first 60 games of a season -- Chipper Jones, who hit .408 in 2008. In the past 10 years, the highest average was Cody Bellinger's .376 mark last year. Of course, that's only the first 60 games as opposed to any 60 games, but the odds are really, really slim.

FYI, I have a weekend plan and received this:

Dear Season Ticket Holder,

We are excited about the 2020 season and the return of Astros Baseball to Minute Maid Park! While we await further information on the schedule and whether we can safely welcome you, our loyal fans, back into the ballpark, we want to outline plans for your account and the 2021 season.

As the coming weeks would have traditionally started our annual renewal period, we are transferring all existing account credit from the initial 2020 season to your 2021 season ticket package. We will send a personal communication shortly that includes specifics; however, we are excited to announce that Season Ticket prices will remain flat for 2021.

If fan attendance is allowed at games at any point during the new 2020 regular season or postseason, Season Ticket Holders whose accounts are in good standing for the 2021 season will be given priority access to individual game tickets.

Have full season tix and got same email

That's not going to go over well

We don't have a problem with it. Would have renewed next year anyway. Priority access to STH's is fair. They do the same for individual tix and post-season too.

Sounds like a normal week at the office for Yordan.

The virtual Astros are in a slump, but virtual Yordan has 22 HR and 77 RBI in 79 games on baseball-reference.com.

Virtual Brantley hitting .387

Virtual Correa healthy but sucking balls at .225.

Virtual George Springer signed to a 7 year, $168 million contract two weeks ago.

7/168? i hope that doesn't happen. 4/100 might be good, though that'd probably be overpaying in the anticipated upcoming free agent market

Then he ain't healthy

Seriously has Correa ever sucked when healthy? Seems like his only slumps were when he has been struggling with an injury.

IF he's healthy he puts up MVP caliber numbers.

Trade isn't real, they didn't send us back Tyler White as a replacement pitcher

All red sox, yankees, cubs, and mets games start at 7pm, everyone else plays at 4 in the morning.

The interesting thing is they mentioned two nationally televised games for the 23rd. Would be nice to get us and the Dodgers for "opening day"

There is always going to be an inter league game being played, so honestly a 20% chance we open with a NL team, might as well be the Dodgers

Didn't see this posted.

What a **** opinion piece. Nancy Armour has had it out for the Astros, and she is at it again

one thought on the 60-game schedule...

pretty good chance that any series late in the season...between teams out of contention will just be cancelled. Or at a minimum the veteran players go home and let the AA guys play. Especially if fans cannot attend.

so the Mariners or Rangers might end up playing just 50 or so games

With 8 teams from each league in the playoffs every game will have meaning. I used June 4 as that had most teams at 60, either a game or so above or below that number and looked at win%. Looking at the last couple of years, .500 or a game below seems to be the magic WP to be in the top half of the league at the rough 60 game mark. There were 2-3 teams right below that within a game or so and then you had 5 teams that were clearly well below. More than other years, winning and getting to the playoffs will matter and as we saw last year, if you get in you have a chance to win it all.

I don't expect a bunch of trades this year because of that. There won't be enough teams so far out that they can be sellers so the prices will be crazy high. Which is good for us as we don't have much left to trade after that Grienke deal.

Pretty sure they agreed to expanded playoffs.

No I don't think so. Playoffs remain the same.
CFTXAG10

I think I read somewhere the expanded playoffs were off the table for now, but they still have time to agree on it for this season. Which only means more $$$$ for the league and the players.
Ag_07

IIRC expanded playoffs were included in the last proposal sent to the players but were nixed when MLB mandated the 60 game season.

That's a fantastic story. The Rock has always come off as just a genuinely good dude.

Sucks there won't be an all star game, but my level of surprise is less than zero given the timeline and what it took to approve just this shortened season.
