I would hope it's not allowed But it's baseball so who knows what screwy rules are in the fine print. Imagine if it's the WS.

his career WAR is 38.2

his WAR during the 6 years of the extension (2014-2019)...just 4.8...including a negative WAR season.

he really fell off once the extension kicked in...despite 2014 being his age 29 season

I'd say that's probably accurate. The only two teams in the NL West that will contend are the dodgers and maybe the Rockies. Al west has 3, and the Rangers will probably be a floating around .500 team

The giants, DBacks and padres will be bad

Total: 142

Vegas has them somewhat even. When you combine both were under the 300 mark so take shots at the I eat on who you feel strong about.

Three things that will drastically change the Astros chances given the very short year:
  • Bregman (slow starter) and Springer (prone to extended slumps) playing to their yearly averages
  • Correa playing 52+ games
  • Verlander and McCullers ready to go

If those happen, I could see flirting with 40 wins unless Dusty eases off the pedal to prep for the playoffs.

I think it was to take effect this year, but has now been shelved. They had tightened up the rules a bit on when a player could pitch:

apparently the Rockies' Ian Desmond is opting out for 2020. And the first player to leave significant money on the table. Was scheduled to make $15 MM this year. (pro-rated to $5 MM)

however he was a negative WAR player in 2019 (and the 2 years prior). So this is actually a win for Colorado.

as an aside...what were the Rockies thinking in signing this guy? Signed him to 5 years at $70 MM after the 2016 season.

I guess that's why the Rockies are the Rockies
