I love Bregs but to me the difference in arm talent between him and Correa is very obvious. Too bad Correa can't stay on the field because he's really special
Better than Bannister, which was the absolute floor in my opinion. Worse than a number of other options. I'd call it a 3/10 hire if true.
It's amazing to me that Crane has made a fortune based on his recent decisions since the Commissioner's report came out.

Baker seems like he has a history of doing great things in year 1 &2. That's just what this team needs. Not my first choice, but don't think it's a disaster by any means

Everyone saying this is a short term hire...why would we hire a guy with the intent to fire him in 2 years? I call BS. He's either going to win a lot of games and be our manager for the foreseeable future or we are lackluster and he's gone in a few years.

I think it's hilarious that Jim Crane is suddenlydumb and in over his head...reminds me of when he was "in over his head" b/c he let MLB force them into the AL and then failed at stealing Andrew Friedman from Tampa and had to settle on a no-name assistant GM with the Cards (b/c the job was so toxic).
Seems to me that maybe Crane knows what he is doing in terms of building/rebuilding a management structure....but, by all means, head for the cliffs b/c you also likely root for the team owned by the McNair family and the similarities are clearly legion.

Then Dusty's agent leaked to Nightengale that it's basically a done deal to put pressure on Astros to meet their demands, knowing that baseball media would slam the Astros if they backtrack on hiring an African American manager.

Let's face it, the guys you really want to lead this club are currently employed and not leaving their clubs in Jan/Feb. Of the guys we interviewed, was anyone really going to satisfy you long term? It's not my favorite hire, but if it turns out to be Dusty, I can tolerate it more than some of the others.
- The optics of a Baker hire are good (longtime baseball guy, respected, minority)
- He knows how to deal with controversies (coached Barry Bonds)
- He knows how to deal with egos (coach Barry Bonds)
- He's not a long-term solution, allowing the Astros to move on, likely without firing him...hell, if we win the World Series this year, he might retire
- As long as he keeps Strom, I think we're alright with this hire
