Let me expand by saying what an embarrassing 7th inning. Pathetic at-bats by Odor, Cabrera and Santana.

That was a good AB by Gallo.

Fortunate Gallo didn't get picked off there.

This game is an illustration this team can be very, very good. It is also an illustration they can be very, very average.

Encouraging performance by Jurado. If nothing else, it will be nice if he can emerge as a SP for the 2020 rotation. It would be one less hole to fill.

Minor-Lynn-Sampson-Smyly-Jurado look to be as serviceably average as any rotation in the Bigs.

This series exposed our bullpen.

Our starters did a good job. It's unfortunate that the bullpen coughed up 2 late inning leads just as soon as we got them. We could've swept these guys if the bullpen was average. Our lineup didn't perform well against the Angels starters, but we still did enough to win anyway. It's on the bullpen really.

Dowdy and springs don't belong on a major league roster.

This series didn't expose our bullpen... our bullpen is what we knew it would be. A liability. I agree neither are MLB pitchers and neither should be on a ML roster.

Dowdy (26) is only on the roster because he was picked up as a Rule V. If we send him down, we have to offer him back to the Indians.

Springs (26) has had low expectations. I think the Rangers were hoping he would improve on last year... but he hasn't, and I'm not sure we have that many options.

Leclerc (25) has under-performed. However, in this series, he has 1 shutout inning.

Chavez (35) has a 4.55 ERA. He has a career 4.45 ERA.
Martin (32) has a 4.43 ERA, and a career 5.13 ERA.
Gomez (31) has an 8.22 ERA. Career 4.51 ERA. He was signed as a minor league hopeful.

Kelley (35) has a 2.55 ERA.

We just don't have anyone. If you are 26+ at AAA and over 6.00 ERA... you are likely running out of runway.

Carpenter (33): 13G, 2.08
Bird (26): 11G, 2.70 ERA
Feigl (28): 14G, 3.43 ERA
Dillard (35): 13G, 5.53 ERA
Curtis (26): 14G, 6.45 ERA
Del Pozo (26): 15G, 6.52 ERA
Espinal (26): 12G 7.20 (AA, AAA)

Jurado looked really good yesterday. That's the kind of performances I want to see this season. If he can be a 3/4 starter for is in 2020, that's be great.

He is a ground ball pitcher, so defense will be key, IMO.

I'm still not sure what to think of Sampson. He is doing well. And while neither strike out a ton... they also don't walk many.

One of the issues with Marin Perez was "Bequeathed Runners Scored." I can't find the stats, but suspect his great improvement might in part be attributed to those. Anyone have a link to such stats?

Minor-Lynn-Sampson-Jurado could work. If we add a #2 it could be outstanding... and a minor leaguer, and it is substantially less outstanding.

Yeah, if Jurado is your #5 and he's pitching like yesterday, that's a good line up. Good enough, anyway.

2020 FA - Gerrit Cole, Madison Bumgarner, Zack Wheeler, Stephen Strasburg (opt-out), Rick Porcello, Jake Odorizzi, Alex Wood. First time we can guarantee no 100 F starts!

Those are some big names, with some historically good seasons. However, not all of them are having career FA seasons.

Additional stats on your list:
Gerrit Cole (Hou-29-RH): 11GS, 4.11, 1.08 (Boras)
Madison Bumgarner (SF-30-LH): 11GS, 4.10, 1.191 (VC Sports)
Zack Wheeler (NYM-29-RH): 11GS, 4.63, 1.314 (Jets Sports)
Stephen Strasburg (Was-30-RH): 11GS, 3.25, 0.99 (Boras)
Rick Porcello (Bos-31-RH): 10GS, 4.45, 1.31 (Excel Sports)
Jake Odorizzi (Minn-29-RH): 11GS, 2.16, 0.99 (Excel Sports)
Alex Wood (Cin-29-LH): Hasn't pitched in 2019. (ACES)

What about:
Hyun-Jin Ryu (LAD-32-RH): 10GS, 1.65, 0.827 (Boras)

So is:
Cole Hamels (CHC-36-LH): 10GS, 3.38, 1.261 (Boggs)

Jhoulys Chacn (Mil-32-RH): 11GS, 4.88, 1.373
Trevor Cahill (LAA-31-RH): 10GS, 6.43, 1.327

By comparison:
Lynn: 10GS, 4.67, 1.36
Sampson, by comparison: 5GS, 4.44 (But is 1 Out from having enough IP to qualify)

Too lazy to give IP, K/9, BB, etc.

The name of the game is simple. Stay healthy. The Rangers have had the best seasons when their SP stays healthy and they limit their exposure for lack of depth.

Interesting they are at 39.

That would leave a spot open if they are to pickup anyone after the June 2nd date.

Hypothetically, of course...

Who are the teams to beat in the AL?

Minnesota has the best record, but I'm not convinced they are the best team.

NYY and Houston probably have the most talent. Both have significant health concerns.

NYY: Betances, Severino, Ellsbury, Andujar are all (60IL). Judge, Sabathia, Stanton, Tulowitz are on IL10. Among others.
Houston: Altuve, Springer and Diaz (Hammy). McCullers and McHugh (Elbow)

Tampa seems pretty solid?!
Oakland has lost Khris Davis, for now.

Texas has a lack of talent.

Think the AL is a toss-up for the next 2 months, or does Houston have enough talent to pull away?

Kimbrel would be an exciting pickup.

We have lost a lot of games because of the bullpen. We would win a lot more if we could fix that problem.

I don't recall us ever wearing that combo. I think some of the ladies might have color coordinated with the emblem on the jersey. ;\

We'll see.

This is their rotation:
Odorizzi (29) has a 2.16 ERA, and a career 3.84 (mostly Tampa). He was at 4.49 last year.
Perez (28) has a 2.95 ERA, and a career 4.51. He was 6.22 last year.
Berrios (24) has a 3.20 ERA, and a career 4.28 (all with Twins). He was 3.84 last year.

Gibson (31) has a 4.08 ERA, and a career 4.44. He was 3.62 last year.
Pineda (30) has a 5.43 ERA, and a career 4.15. He was 4.39 last year.

4 of 5 have a better ERA than their career. Two are at 50% of what their ERA was last year.

Only other SP is Kohl Stewart with 2 GS.

This road trip has been a dud, but not for the reason I would've expected.

What's hurt us is we haven't really been able to hit the other teams starters. Our starters have actually done a pretty good job tho.

We needed a game like this. Especially nice that it comes on the road. Hopefully Sampson can eat some innings, mow hitters down, and save the pen.
