It's definitely a positive development, but my big issue with the lineup tonight is that Gallo is hitting 5th, he's been BY FAR our most dangerous hitter. Whose hitting behind him at #6? Probably our worst hitter. Odor.

Gallo is going to be drawing more walks than Barry bonds.

It's still better than wasting at bats with odor at #2 tho. I'll say.

I don't care if people think I'm an ******* or that I'm too hard on Odor, but we gave him that big contract and he's done literally nothing this year.

I see your argument and agree. However, Pence is hitting in front of Joey and has been equally as productive as Joey - albeit without the power. For that reason, I'm ok with Gallo 5th since Hunter is very likely to be on base in front of him. The risk of Joey hitting cleanup is that he starts the inning (at least the second) with empty bags if nobody produced ahead of him.

GLF is 1.8 million square feet. It will be taller than GLP, and the playing surface will be 70 below street level, which is about 30-40 feet lower than GLP. The field is also rotated 90. Home plate is in the southwest corner instead of the right field corner. That means the sun will now set behind the 3rd base side I stress of the 1st base side.

The roof is one solid piece and will take 12-15 minutes to close. Still TBD on what temperature would actually force us to close it. I'm guessing high 80s/low 90s.

The lower seating is much smaller. There are 40 rows in the lower bowl, inside the foul poles, at GLP. There will only be 16 rows in GLF. Rows 1-8 and 9-16 will be separated by a walkway. Rows 9-16 are elevated 6-7 feet above rows of 1-8. Prices here range from $50 to $450

Next is the lower suites, which are now only 16 rows off the field.

Then you have your mezzanine level (100 level). This is the main concourse and is the level you enter the ballpark on. Prices here range from $40 to $85.

On top of the mezzanine level are the upper suites, also called the Classic Suites.

Then there's the pavilion (200 level). Prices here range from $30 to $45.

Lastly, the upper level (300). Prices here range from $15 to $20.

I forgot the outfield seats. Right field is $25, which is $1 less per ticket than at GLP. Left field is $35

There will be 6 premium club spaces in which all of your food & beverage and parking is included. Entry point for these areas is $150 per ticket.

The 8/16 with the concourse is what I was thinking. That is similar to how the LF OF seats are at PetCo. There are a series of seats... maybe 10 rows. Then an aisle With another set of seats that are elevated. In their walkways, they have barstool tables, as well.

It will be interesting, none-the-less.

All this talk of the summer heat, and all I can think is that those that say it's anything less than miserable really need some perspective. Not everyone grows up in the North Texas blast furnace. I did, and I used to defend it. But i am old now and know that you don't have to suffer at a baseball game. 95 degrees at 9pm is not a way to attract paying customers. Or star athletes who grew up elsewhere.

I love TBIA, and regret that it won't live a longer life. But it was built with an eye towards the past instead of the future, and that was its fatal flaw.

If the Rangers stuck with that line... I think they'd get more people on board, quicker.

RBiA was modeled after Camden Yards, and the historic feel of RBiA was endearing at a time when baseball fans needed something. It sure helped the Rangers...

I'm not against another stadium and knew it would happen at some point.

I hate the way the process went, I hate the deal made to get it built, I hate the circumstances of the on field performance and all that, I hate the hypoctrical sales job done to get a stadium with a 20% capacity cut, and every photo/drawing of the design has been uninspiring***.

***I'm certainly going to keep an open mind about the design and structure until I actually attend a game.

I don't know about that. It reinvigorated the franchise and helped set up a lot of good times for the franchise and it's fan base.

It was the early 1990s. I don't think not having a roof was necessarily "looking towards the past."

At the time, especially, it was a great place and part of a wave of new stadiums that were built to get the league out of the cookie cutter stadium era and to help push the league out of a pretty unremarkable 1970s-1980s period for MLB.

It was marketed at a 50+ year stadium when it opened. The most modern of amenities but packaged in a classic looking style that wouldn't grow tiresome to look at.

The only thing it "missed" was that it was built before the retractable roof became common. Only the Skydome had it at the time. Arizona in 98, Seattle in 99 (both far more understandable than needing one here), then 3 more in the 2000's followed. Suites, better concourses, robust concessions, robust bathrooms, great style - it's in great shape regarding almost all of the reasons ballparks are typically being replaced for.

I'd argue it wasn't built looking at the past. It was built as a stadium for baseball and only baseball. Not a multi-use facility. And that's why it's being replaced.

Been thinking the same thing watching Gallo lately. Not watching the game but the "live" broadcast on MLB app says he hit a single to left. Last night he hit to left against the shift and got on base. I'm really liking this Joey Gallo. He is taking a ton of walks and gets some good base hits, as well as keeping his HR numbers up.

His defense (minus the bad throw Friday night) has been pretty damn good, too.

Yep. I credit the new staff. In a vacuum, pitchers are generally terrified of a hitter like Gallo. As a result, he should be able to works ton of walks. The Ks are going to happen but it seems like he's much more in control at the plate.

He also breaks the mold a little in terms of a player with his power ability. He's also not a liability on the basepath at all. He can score from first on a double. So if a pitcher is gong to put him on, he's still a threat to score.

Yeah my big issue with him has always been the contract. Now the team is in the unenviable position of giving him preferential treatment in the lineup all the time, always playing him, and praying he improves.

I don't have an issue with him getting the contract. My frustration is that he seems content with not earning it. I know that's easy for me to say and his performance may be much harder on him than he projects, but there's just not any strides to indicate he is fixing his issues.

In my mind, what Joey has been able to do in a short period of time with his approach and the improvement that he has generated makes it that much more frustrating.

The rangers still treat him that way tho.

Maybe the organization is just very stubborn / arrogant and wants to see him do well because he's "home grown" in the minor league system.

I'm fairly certain I have that we opted to not build it with a roof, or the ability to add one later.

Retractable roofs weren't being done then. And the whole stadium cost less than $200 million. A retractable roof basically wasn't reasonably feasible at the time

I've always been a fan of Odor... and I'll relish in his final numbers.

I think it is funny how much angst there is for his "huge" contract.

Lance Lynn is owed $30M/3yr
Odor is owed $29.5M for the next 3 years.

Lynn and his 5.75 ERA and 5.2 IP/GS.

Nothing suggests to me that Odor isn't one of the hardest working players for the Rangers.

One issue he has, for sure, is that he doesn't want to rehab in the minors. Last year, and this year, he has done very little if anything to rehab in the minors. It is to the detriment of his team, but speaks to how important it is for him to help his team.

His 6 years by age 25 is a double edged sword. You might say, "Well, he has 6 years experience." Yeah... he has played at the MLB when his equals were still in the minor leagues.

A 25 year old player has a certain expectation for maturity and ability. Whether he spent 5 more years in minor league ball or big league ball... at 25, most players are just trying to break through to make it to the Bigs. He has proven he belongs. Had he not been in Arlington, he wouldn't be eligible for the contract he signed... he'd be a Serf... like most other 25 year olds.

I like Odor. I like him a lot...

2018: .316, 13 HR, 17 SB, .386 OBP
2019: .250, 9 HR, 1 SB, .336 OBP

Odor (25): $7.8M (2019), $9.3M (2020), $12.3M next 2 years until age 29
2018: .253, 18 HR, 12 SB, .326 OBP
2019: .141, 2 HR, 2 SB, .221 OBP

Altuve was an MVP candidate by age 25. He posted a better WAR as a 24 year old than Odor has in his entire career combined.

There are ways to defend Odor. Trying to reopen that dumb Altuve-Odor comparison thing again is not one of the better ways.
