In case you needed any further proof of the Greatness of Brocail.

Guess who learned how to pitch, again.

Martin Perez.

6 Games in Minnesota.

His last 3 GS, 18.0 IP, 3.00 ERA.

His first 3 G were out of the bullpen. His last 3 appearances have been GS. I look forward to his continued success.

That's one thing we definitely agree on.

Brocail was a disaster, he might be the worst coach in rangers history. He was so arrogant too, I remember he would always gruffly state " the approach is awesome, these pitchers just aren't executing". In other words, Brocail was saying he's great, the pitchers just suck.

I thought Iapoce was bad too, he wasn't a good fit for the type of hitters we had. What really did Banny in was horrible assistant coaches along with terrible bullpen management from him and He demonstrated no ability to be able to develop players or work with the younger guys you usually have during a rebuild. I'm so glad that he's gone.

Would have liked to have seen Perez with the new staff. Would have been cheap. I get that the organization and him may have just had enough of each other, but it really will be a damn shame to see another staff straighten him out on the cheap while the Rangers are rolling out garbage mutlipe starts per week.

So much common ground.

When Perez was struggling, in 2017, he was watching video and realized he might be tipping his pitches. Of course it looks bad for the coaches that a player self-diagnosed. That they couldn't help him...

So, how did they react?

Quote:

Pitching coach Doug Brocail expressed some reservations, noting that the pitches Perez threw, tipped or not, could have been better.

"He may be tipping pitches, but everything hit last night was middle across the zone," Brocail said. "You can tip and still get guys out, and you can not tip and throw the ball over the middle of the zone and not get hit. I don't want anybody making excuses. I don't want that to be a cop out that makes us not work hard in our next side session."
Exactly like a meathead.

Up to that point, his 20 GS had a 5.13 ERA.

In his 6 GS prior to realizing he was tipping, he had an ERA of 7.27.
In the 5 GS after announcing he was tipping, he had an ERA of 2.91.

Perez finished the season with 12 more GS after fixing his tipping and had a 4.33 ERA.

How the hell Brocail survived that for 2018 is beyond me. I was a big fan of Perez and followed him from his days in Spokane, where he was the 2nd youngest pitcher (at that time) to pitch in that league... behind only Felix Hernandez.

Maybe Banny didn't have the connections or contacts to bring in a real pitching coach. The blame for Brocail definitely lies at his feet tho.

He does have a hit today tho.

I'm tired of the combination of him getting preferential treatment and backup guys outplaying him tho. He needs to produce if he's just going to be handed a spot.

Ranger lineup is taking their Oakland frustrations out on Seattle.

These last 2 games were fun!

This lineup is wild card quality at least. Too bad the pitching is so bad.

The Rangers need to take the pillows from their hotel in Seattle and sleep on them in their next trip to Oakland.

The news on Taylor Hearn's left elbow is what the Texas Rangers were anticipating Friday when they place him on the 10-day injured list: He doesn't need Tommy John surgery.
An MRI exam read Saturday in Arlington by team physician Dr. Keith Meister revealed only inflammation in the joint. Hearn will not throw for at least three weeks, when he will be evaluated, and will spend that time at extended spring training in Surprise, Ariz.
Hearn made his MLB debut Thursday, struggling with his control and showing a drop in velocity while retiring only one of the eight batters he faced. The Seattle Mariners scored five runs (four earned) on three hits and four walks.
Hearn threw 39 pitches, and his average fastball velocity was 91.6 mph. He has topped out at 98 and usually sits in the mid-90s. After the game, he told the media that he was sacrificing velocity in an effort to throw more strikes.
He didn't mention any elbow issues, though he told the medical staff that his elbow felt tight. The Rangers sent him to Texas on Friday and used the IL move to recalled right-hander Wei-Chieh Huang from Triple A Nashville.

The Rangers acquired Hearn on July 30, 2018, in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for closer Keone Kela. The Rangers later added infielder Sherten Apostel to complete the deal.

Lynn had a great performance last night.

He seems to have bi-polar performances:

5.2 IP, 10 H, 7 ER (v Cubs)
7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER (@ LAAA)
6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER (@ Ariz)
5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER (v LAAA
3.1 IP, 9 H, 8 ER (@ Oak)
7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER (@ Sea)

1 more out in his 4th game, and he'd have 4 QS.

If he goes 3 good for every 1 bad performance, the team will do well in his GS.

I also like him giving up lots of runs in fewer games, than spreading them evenly. At least that gives your team a chance to win in the games he does well. It will also help the BP get rest. I wonder if inserting a SP between he and Minor might help the BP.

Closer isn't the only issue.

I have NO IDEA what odor is trying to do at the plate. He's hitting under .150 and for some reason we keep running him out there to hit #2. What a waste.

Santana has vastly outperformed odor to this point, but I guess the organization only cares about money and prior promises NOT player performance.

I always think of the coach from the movie remember the Titans " the best player will play, regardless of skin color".

If I was woodward, I'd be upset with the front office. His job at the end of the day is to try and win baseball games. Forcing the manager to put some joker whose hitting .145 in the #2 hole every game SEVERELY limits his ability to do what the organization supposedly brought him in for.

JD doesn't make the lineups. Nobody is forcing CW to put Odor in the lineup. They obviously see something in Odor that we don't.

I'm not digging it up right now, but one of the articles from one of the best writers today made reference to Odor and how Woodward "knows about the financial commitment made" to him and that may influence him playing daily.

No disputing that. I think the pressure/expectations related to the contract are getting to LeClerc. I think he'll be fine, eventually.

Hopefully Odor will turn it around soon, like he did last year after early struggles. No idea on Chavez. He seemed like a decent signing at the time, but it's just not happening right now for him.

Same here. Didn't realize his batting average was that low until today and still batting at 2.

Would have been great if Nomar would have caught the ball in the top of the 9th for the first out.

A few of the hits that Leclerc gave up seemed lucky to me. I feel like he needs to go out there in a few non-critical situations and he'll figure it out. I'm not as worried about him as I was about Dyson or Tolleson.

Do you think it would help Rougned Odor if the Rangers moved him to the bottom of the batting order? A few years ago, they moved Elvis Andrus to the bottom and it helped him.

Love getting questions from a fellow lover of dogs who has rescued two beautiful pooches in distress. Odor is a tough guy to place in the lineup because he has both power and speed, but also has a career .246 batting average and .294 on-base percentage that does not lend itself to a spot at the top of the lineup. Look, manager Chris Woodward knows the Rangers have made a major financial commitment to Odor. He is trying to find any possible way to maximize production out of him and if the No. 2 spot doesn't work, yes, you could see him dropped in the order.

Not cool woodward. Not cool.

All he's doing is making the rest of the fan base suffer in an effort to please Odor.

Quick note on upcoming roster considerations:

Quote:

Guzman's return may impact bullpen
First baseman Ronald Guzman could come off the injured list next Tuesday and the Rangers could avoid a tough decision with their bullpen by going with seven relievers instead of eight.
The tough call would be which position player gets dropped when Guzman comes back: Logan Forsythe or Danny Santana. The Rangers could keep both if they go with just seven relievers.
"That's definitely a possibility," Woodward said. "It is weighing on my mind a little bit. I don't want to lose either one of them. I don't really feel the need to get rid of one of them. They are too valuable with the way they are playing."
The alternative would be placing either Santana or Forsythe on outright waivers and risk losing one of them.
A week or two ago I posted that Forsythe should be the one to go, but he's obviously been hot lately so it won't be him (barring a trade). It'll be hard to go with a shorter bullpen with our rotation inconsistencies, but the starters have actually been doing better of late.
