His fingerprints were all over this victory. The Astros scored 2 runs in the 5th and were hungry for more. In years past, they probably would've tied the game. Sampson got what should've been a double play ball, unfortunately something happened with Cabrera and we only got one out. Instead of leaving Sampson out there to get ice cold during the injury timeout, woodward brings in Shawn Kelley to put out the fire and end the Astros best chance to get back in the game.

I'm sure nobody on this board thinks the team would be doing as well with the prior manager still in place.

That Gerrit Cole era is gonna be hurting for a while.

I rarely agree with you on other things(non sports subjects) but you are absolutely correct about this. I'm digging Woodward what he's doing except for that series in Anaheim.

Is it Gio Gonzalez time? I believe he signed a minor league deal with the NYY. He was slated to make $300K/GS @ the MLB level, if he were called up. Not sure what happened to him, that he didn't get a big league deal. It appears his opt-out is nearing and he'll opt-out.

He didn't do so well, in Scranton (AAA): 3 GS, 6.00 ERA.

Was he asking for too much? 2018 went 32 GS, 4.21 ERA at Wash and Mil.

Sampson might be serviceable, but I'm not ready to rely on him as a SP. Not sure Smyly has the stamina or ability right now. Maybe go to a 6 man rotation, with all the injured players.

Ugh..... I'd probably pick Vicente Padilla or Bartolo Colon over smyly right now. Wherever those guys are.

Yeah..... Teixera got beaned at least 15 times because of Padilla. When they were teammates, Padilla would bean someone and the other team would hit texiera in retaliation because he was seen as our best hitter. As opponents, Padilla beaned him at least 5 times because teixera kept hitting home runs off him.

I still remember the game at Yankee stadium where teixera got beaned by Padilla and ran full speed at Elvis into second base( similar to the Bautista play) and Andrus jumped over him / brushed it off. Teixera was pissed. Lots of Yankee players texted our players after the game and said that Padilla could get our guys hurt.

I think Padilla ended up getting cut shortly after that. It might have been a "last straw" kind of thing. What makes this story really pathetic is that he was our best and most consistent pitcher for a 3 or 4 year period.

Opponents generally took it out on everyone else vs just charging Padilla because they were afraid Padilla might pull out a switchblade and cut them.

His arm is the reason I hope we are still looking to upgrade in center field. If his arm was maybe 20% stronger it would be good enough considering how great he is in other areas of the game.

Yes, we have several potential CF upgrade options in the minors, but they are all 1 to 2 years away most likely (Taveras, Martinez, B. Thompson). Thompson just got hurt last week and will be out for 4 to 6 weeks or so.

And Hunter Pence gives his former team a ***** slap across the face with a HR ball. Nice!

And then Forsythe answers with another HR on the next pitch.

10-1 now. Somehow that was Gallo's first career sac fly. Not sure how that is even possible given how long he has been playing.
