i'll allow Scherzer to skip rest of series, no arguments here

Hope this doesn't have the 'We've never seen him so he mows us down' effect.

With my BAS I immediately thought this as well...

No Scherzer means the Astros very likely run away with the game tonight.
Not really
It increases our chance of winning but to say it's very likely we run away with it is crazy talk.
It's the WS. The Nats didn't run away with it last night with Urquidy pitching.
Urquidy didn't pitch 2 nights ago. Ross will have a hard time going very far into this game.
But let's say he gives them 5 innings like Urquidy did. Then they have to turn it over to a very bad bullpen. They're even saying Sanchez is available despite throwing 93 pitches 2 nights ago. That's desperation and IMO not a winning strategy.
Lastly, I think the Astros' pitching adjustments carry over well for Cole and he has a really good game.

Quote:
Game 5 Home Plate Ump Lance Barksdale
Barksdale's strike-calling tendencies aren't as hitter-favorable as Hoye's, but they're close. Barksdale consistently rates as a more reluctant strike caller than his peers. He and Porter each have 2.4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratios this season (the MLB average is 2.7). If the best-of-7 series goes this far and it's Cole's game, he won't mind. He had a 1.80 ERA with 21 strikeouts and two walks in two games Barksdale umpired this season.
Most important tendencies: The reason for Barksdale's numbers comes from his not giving a pitcher a little bit of extra room off the outside corner as often as some of his peers. That's important knowledge for Astros catcher Martin Maldonado, who catches Cole and usually rates as one of the game's top pitch-framers. He may not be able to get a call or two that he would with others.

Now that was shocking. I didn't realize he was still in the league.
