Listened to the Houston Astros podcast on their site today that's recorded before yesterday game. They interviewed Hinch about Miley (before his start), and Hinch said Miley is usually good for 85-90 pitches. After that he starts to tire down and he really doesn't like to leave him out there longer. Hinch also mentioned that he can tell when a pitcher is losing it when his command fades late in games.

All that being said, Hinch leaving Miley out there for two batters in the 9th goes against everything he said he likes to do with Miley.

This is true, but Hinch also showed in the 2017 playoff race that he was willing to manage some by gut feeling too. He's even said he can't always make a decision solely on analytics, there has to be some gut feeling in there too. I think he's struck a good balance between those two things.

I don't mind Hinch giving Miley the opportunity to do something that is difficult to do. I think the only error was not taking it batter by batter and ultimately pulling him after the first batter was walked on 4 pitches

The fans, Miley, the team, and I'm sure AJ wanted that CG shutout for Miley. Bummer how it played out. At the end of the day, just win the series.
