He has middle of the plate and up down pretty good.

Given a 3-0 lead, Valdez is now down 4-3 after pitching just 3 1/3.

This is why I hate the opener approach. It's lipstick on a pig

You're still depending on a crappy pitcher to carry the load and firing the James bullet to start puts you in a tougher spot to begin with.
