Put White in the bullpen permanently. Bring him out once every 5 games as a change of pace. No hitter is prepared for 78 mph fastballs that move 2 feet left to right.

Unless you consider Straw an IF, we pretty much have to carry Mayfield right now. Healthy, we only have White, Yuli, Bregs, Kemp and A.J. Reed as IF on the 40 man. As soon as one of the guys on the DL get ready to come back, Mayfield is gone.

it may be part of a general shift in baseball...where 140 is the new 162.

as Astro fans we were used to seeing Biggio and Bagwell clock in for 162 or 161 games per season...year after year.

but now if a player plays in 140 games...it's considered a "full season" of work.

none of Springer, Altuve, or Correa crossed the 140-game barrier last year...and none of them are going to cross it this year

Our front office is extremely careful and to not rush them back, and rightly so given the large lead we have. Not sure what there is to be angry about as it's the strategy and doesn't look like it will change

Without the injuries, I think they would have, especially with the way we use the DH position. But for Correa and Springer, a season without injury just doesn't happen much.

Also, this team isn't just playing 162 games per year. We played 18 extra games in 2017 and 8 extra last year. As we continue to be positioned for long playoff runs, I think you'll continue to see a slow roll out of players in spring training, and as much rest as possible during the season.
